Penny-Arcade Filter: What's up with Episode 3 of Precipice? I seem to have missed some sort of news post or journal entry where they announced what was going on with Precipice. I really enjoyed playing the first two chapters. Are the next two just going to by Jerry writing them in word form?
The video game version, at least, is canned:
"Right now my focus is on trying to create an episodic story-based version of the remaining games. It's going to be like a book that comes out," Holkins explained...
There were recent-ish rumors from the devs that if people buy a million (or some large number) copies of Precipice 2, that they'd develop 3, but the PA guys shot it down, saying they had no idea what the dev was talking about.

Hothead recently released the games on the Mac app store, and tweeted to say that if it reached 100,000 sales, they'd make Episode 3. Mike at Penny Arcade tweeted back to say that wasn't true, and Hothead then recanted. They said they were just overexcited.
In an interview since, the head of the company has said that it's mainly a business decision. The first two didn't sell well enough to justify the third. And for Jerry and Mike's part, they've said they underestimated the amount of work involved, and that it was exhausting and arduous and they'd prefer to move on to other projects.

I asked Tycho at SDCC, and the answer was "There will be no more that I know of. I am gutted."
That's Tycho for you. ;)

The rumors I'd heard (either on gaming blogs or podcasts) pinned it on the PA guys not realizing the sheer amount of work that went into designing a game, and not enjoying the slog.
That, and disappointing sales.

The last article I read backs up what graventy is saying:
