Name that French rabbit movie!

What is the French movie, probably from the 90's, that concerns rabbits, an old man with a family and a farm? My friend watched it in French class back in high school (late 90's), and is DYING to see it again.
Best seen together, as the second movie really completes the story of the first.

Best seen together
I still remember when I first saw these in the theater. We were going to see just the first one, but as soon as it was over we went back to the ticket counter and bought tickets for the second. Went to Jack in the Box to kill an hour in between, and then sat blissfully through the second. It was fantastic.

Yeah, it's Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring.

Came here to say the same thing as everyone else — Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring (singular, I'm a pedant). It was taught in my high school French classes as well; I still remember analyzing subjunctive forms from the Marcel Pagnol books. Now that I've lived in France for a while, and been to the boondocks of Provence quite a few times (have friends who live there), I can say that it's true to life, even now in the 21st century. It's very insular, and there's an unimaginable amount of inter-family drama that goes on behind the scenes of what most people see. Anyway. It's not just about rabbits, but considering that the French do raise rabbits for food, and that's in the story, I can see how it might jump out at people with different sensibilities about bunnies. Myself included, eh. "What?! They eat bunny wabbits?!?!" Now it doesn't really bother me...
