The origins of milk and gardening advice.

Is it illegal to ask two questions at once? You don't have to answer both.... okay
1) which came first, using cow milk for human consumption or rice or nut milk? I recently read some parenting blog about milk milk vs non dairy milk and someone posted that animals milk has been used forever while nut milk is a relatively new thing.....and I thought "no way".
2) I want to plant a garden in my yard that is not really a garden but more like a hodge podge of flowers and veggies that grow wildly and randomly. I don't know too much about gardening and am wondering if there has to be more science behind succesful thriving plants.....I want it to look like a bountiful accident. Is this possible or will some plants attack the roots of others or any other razy plant drama?

This post was deleted for the following reason: this is clearly two questions, not one question and yeah that's not okay. Maybe ask them in two separate questions next time, or ask the always-available mods via the contact form if this sort of thing is kosher. -- jessamyn

Asking two questions like this is probably no go.

But as to the first, why wouldn't it occur to early humans to drink another mammal's milk if they could get to it? I'm sure they figured milk is milk.

Rice and nut milks are processed foods that require a few more logical steps to arrive at.

Your friend is right: humans have been collecting and using animal milk for thousands of years. Not just cattle, either: also goats, sheep, camels, buffalo. It's common enough and nutritionally important enough so that high-tech was invented to preserve the nutritional value, that being cheese-making.

Rice milk and nut milk are modern inventions.

Humans have been drinking animal milk since at least the legend of Romulus and Remus was invented.

If you just want a flower garden, get some seeds from Wildseed Farms or the like for your area. If you want herbs and vegetables, too, figure out what does really well in your area and throw some of those in the mix. For me, it would be basil, green beans and squash, but no tomatoes.

Nut milks are most likely a recent invention, but not all cultures drink milk.

"recent" in regard to nut milk would be no later than the middle ages--at least for almond milk. it's use was well-established in Two 15th Century English Cookery Books where it's used it in both sweet and savory dishes. animal milk was undoubtedly used first, though, for reasons other answers here have touched on.
