Does Metafilter advocate breaking up too much? Every relationship question here gets fish-heads in newspaper...
Meta-Meta filter.
It seems like every question about relationships here gets a solid 50% or more of answers saying: It's not working. Break up. Post-haste. Do it live. Et cetera. I come here looking for advice and commiseration and what I usually end up with is a depressing dose of "end it!"
Good for what ails you? I'm not so sure. Isn't it sometimes true that ending a relationship is the easy way out? What about hard work and dedication? Isn't it possible that sometimes we jump to conclusions (literally)? And what would that mean about us ourselves?
Yes, this means I have questions about my own relationships. Why do half the answers have to involve quitting? Is it just me, or is that depressing and even wrong?
The worst thing is that a lot (not all) of the answers in question are really well-written and thoughtful.
Sure, in some situations it's gonna be warranted. Sometimes it's harsh but truthful and even useful realism. But sakes alive. If half the answers to "My life is shitty" questions were "Stop living", what kind of place would this be for advice?
Sometimes I read the answers here and I just go "jeez."
