"The Wonder Boys" redux

The 2000 Michael Douglas "The Wonder Boys" I remember not liking it when I saw for the first time several years ago. But I've watched it twice in the last days, and actually think it's a very, very good movie, maybe even excellent, and I'm surprised that it stayed so low inder the radar when it was realeased. (Interesting what a cast it turns out to have had--in 2000, only real bankable star in movie was Micheal Douglas. Anyway, anyone else like it a lot?

If memory serves, it actually got RE-released. The reviews were rave, the audiences failed to show. I think it was one of those 'How to Flunk a movie with bad marketing' case studies. Wikipedia says: "After Wonder Boys failed at the box office, there was a second attempt to find an audience with a new marketing campaign and a November 8, 2000, re-release, which was also a financial disappointment."

Booo. Anyway, my old roommate Rick is a prominent extra in the film. I am brimming with Wonder Boys trivia.

I liked it on release - it's a fantastic film and probably one of my favourite American films of all time.

Initial poor figures were blamed on the poster btw.
