Help me get tickets to a soldout NYE party, please.

What is the best way to get tickets to a sold out New Year's Eve Party? [more inside]

I really really want to go to the Gordon Biersch NYE party in San Francisco, but tickets just sold out last week. Since it just sold out, I feel like there should be lots of people reselling the tickets, but I've scoured the web and found almost nothing. I found one craigslist posting, but the guy hasn't emailed me back after a couple of days. Online scalpers ticket resellers, such as this, are all totally focused on sports/concerts/theater. Ebay's got nothing. I'm wondering if anyone has any other suggestions for searching online, or perhaps people to contact/places to look in the real world. I still need to find a hotel for that night too, is this something a good hotel concierge might be able to find? Is there some place in SF (legal or otherwise) that resells popular tickets to stuff like this? Anybody got 2 spare tickets? Help!

book a room at a good hotel, ask the concierge now. that's what they do. i've had a lot of luck with concierges.

some may even help you out if you're not even staying in the hotel. i've noticed they tend not to ask if you're a guest.

usually you'll have better luck with craigslist as the date approaches and people figure out they can't go, etc etc. you might also post a "wanted" ad on cl.

Find out who is publicizing the event and work on them. If you publish a weblog, try to use that as currency. If not, look for some publication which might send you in exchange for some digital shots and/or write up and use their name.

If any of your credit crads offers concierge service you might try that as well.

Yeah, chaz's point is a great one. Contact a local news site like SFist.com and ask if you can be their press correspondent for the event, then try to get press tickets.

Of course, you'll have to be sober enough to remember what happened. And don't back out on the deal...

Thanks for the tips everyone, I just scored tickets based on a wanted ad I put up on craigslist last night. The "press" idea is definitely a good one - i may try that in the future.
