Cheap CD sleeves

Are the big music companies really trying to put us off buying legit copies of new CDs? I ask this after buying the latest offerings from Springsteen and Franz Ferdinand and being hacked off that both discs came in card sleeves rather than plastic trays that have been the norm for years (and for which my CD rack was designed). Of course after a few plays the card starts to tear and the whole thing is most unsatisfactory.

I'm guessing they're probably trying to boost margins/compensate for material prices wherever they can, now that CD sales are down due to a variety of reasons. Maybe a high bitrate rip and a quality digital music playing device in your home theater is a solution?

A lot of albums come with bonus tracks when purchased through Itunes (as opposed to a physical cd, which comes with no extra tracks). I'd guess that you're right and they're trying to push people away from cds towards online tracks which probably have a lower distribution cost.
