Lack of Diversity in Seattle?

Is Seattle really as progressive as it thinks it is? or is it, as a whole, a closet bigot with a great big green smile?

I have been living in Seattle for about 3 years now. I am originally from Northern NJ and worked in NYC for about 4 years before I moved out here. I am a young white Jewish woman. I keep finding myself bothered by the lack of diversity in Seattle. I know that it is primarily white and asian and that there IS some diversity, but almost none compared to where I am from. I live in North Seattle now, and it seems a little more blue collar and therefore a little more diverse than the U district, but I feel that Seattle projects this attitude of being so damn progressive, green and all that, and racially "tolerant" but I dont think that Seattle knows what diversity is at all, and therefore cant truly be progressive. I think it took me a while to feel this way because I had my head to the books (school) the first 2 years I was here.
Can someone please explain Seattle's socio-economic situation to me and please convince me that Seattle isnt a closet bigot!
I feel like it is the most segregated city I have ever lived in...but in a subtle, passive, repressed kind of way. I want to be comfortable here and I know that it might sound strange that a white Jewish girl is complaining about this, but I come from an extremely liberal, diverse family and town so its understandable that I would feel more comfortable when there is diversity and other people's cultures around me. If anyone has any historical examples of progress that might defend beautiful Seattle, please let me know.
Thanks
