Do people meet each other off metafilter?
Has anyone met anyone off ask.metafilter.com? Like, say you like someone's responses, you write to them, they write back, you end up talking, and it turns out they live nearby. Does this happen here? Or is this more of a "keep to yourself," ask questions, stay anonymous, kind of site?
Give me examples if you have any!

Sure! There are meetups all the time, all over the world. Check MetaTalk. If there isn't one coming up in your vicinity, plan one! If you add your location to your profile, a list of people close to you will automatically be generated.
My daughter and I had lunch today with a (newer) good friend I met at a Meetup. Good luck!

Should have clarified. Aside from organized meet-ups, do people just end up messaging each other and end up meeting? Just on-on-one, kind of like how people end up meeting on myspace and stuff?

You're fairly new around these parts, so you might not now that ask.metafilter is a new(er) part of the metafilter family. People have been meeting and forming relationships through Metafilter for many years. Check out this link for a list of recent meetups that have been organized through the metatalk section of the site.
I think that at least one married couple have met through metafilter, there may even be more.
Apparently jonmc has people approaching him at work all the time to tell him "hey, I know you from metafilter"

This is probably a question best posted in metatalk, which is where questions about metafilter go, but yeah, I've met lots of mefites. San Francisco mefites like meetups, and even outside of meetups, I sometimes get together with mefites. We're mostly a good bunch.

Yep. I've made several friends and found a few relationships from or connected to Metafilter/AskMefi. The meetups are where its at.
Another thing that makes Metafilter so great is that there are quite a few notable people around here...authors, tv peeps, field leaders (all sorts of subjects...you'd be surprised!) I've had some wonderful conversations with people whose work I have admired, by simply MeMailing them and saying 'hey MeFite, great work on ___!...'
This is a very small community and a very large one. Treat it as both, and I think you'll make some great connections!
