What is most likely to kill the human race?

What is the most likely cause of the end of the world?

We hear about global warming, underwater volcanoes, the sun exploding, bird flue, etc. every day, but what is most likely to actually kill humanity? I am looking more for species-wide extinction then threats to society as we know it. Which eventualities should I worry about and prepare for most?

SOME say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

I'm pretty sure this is chatfilter.

If your question gets deleted as chatfilter, there are a bunch of threads (some older, some more recent) from the blue that deal with the end of the world... Do a MeFi search for various terms related to end-of-the-world scenarios and you'll find them.

You should prepare for the eventualities that won't actually kill humanity. Nothing to prepare for if we're dead.

The world will not end until the sun dies.

Humans will almost certainly go extinct long before that, but the world will continue to exist, regardless. Stupidity will end the human species, the death of the sun will end the world in several billion years.
