How should I deal with transferring to a new iphone?

I need a new iphone.

For YEARS, my phone has had some glitch where my email freezes and won't reload and it can take three or four minutes for my inbox to open or for emails to fill in. The photos folder also sometimes freezes. Unrelatedly -- or maybe relatedly, I really don't know -- the apple ID that's listed in settings is not my correct apple ID. It's a defunct email address that I haven't had for about TEN YEARS. It wasn't my apple ID when I got the phone, so I'm assuming it carried over when I did the automatic set up back then. I have another apple ID that I use and which my phone also seems to recognize, but I'm unable to get rid of the defunct one -- in part, I think because I no longer have access to that email address. In any case, because of all the bad stuff going on with this phone, I'm afraid to simply transfer my data to a new phone because I'm afraid some of these problems will carry over and infect the new phone. But if I set up the new iphone fresh, I'll lose all the data on the current phone. It's not a lot, but it's photos and a few apps I'd like to keep, and my contacts. Is there a good solution here? (For what it's worth, I don't have cloud storage on the phone, as far as I can tell. It's grayed out.) Is it likely that if I go in and buy the phone at the apple store, someone can help me with this?

It is 100% certain that they can.

If you want to be extra-sure about the photos, you could install google photos & back them up there. Just be sure not to choose the option that deletes them from your phone once they've been uploaded.

You could try transferring everything to the new phone, but keep the old phone for a while as a backup. If it seems that the transfer has caused any problems, you can then do a factory reset to get the new phone back to brand-new condition, and then figure out how to manually transfer things like photos and contacts from the old phone.

Yes, this is absolutely something that the Genius Bar at the Apple Store can help you with.

It’s possible you may need to make an appointment — worth checking with your local store to see what their process is.
