Childhood memories are weird, mmmkay?

I'm just a parent, standing before a hivemind, asking for any leads on a children's book from 25-30 years ago.

I asked earlier but I think it got buried... Help me hivemind, you're my only hope!

I still haven't been able to rattle this one loose, nor have I had the wherewithal to check if I have it in the attic.

Should I call the library and ask a librarian? What do? I'd love to find this and give a copy to my doula's kid who's about to be an older sister (once I look through and make sure it's as great as I remember).

I would OF COURSE call your local library and ask the children's librarian, because I am finding zero matches in a Google Images search. :7)

Yep, ask a librarian! Other places to try are Stump the Bookseller and r/whatsthatbook.

I tried searching Google Books for 20th-century books matching "black jellybeans" or "black jelly beans" combined with "sister", "big sister", "little sister", "baby sister"... no joy, although the results I got were weird enough to make me wonder if there's something a bit buggy there at the moment, so someone else might have better luck.

You might also try searching for books that have "licorice" in them. And note that "jelly beans" can also be written as one word: "jellybeans".

Do you still want other big sister book recs as in your original question? There's A Baby Sister for Frances, a picture book by Russell Hoban.

Response by poster: @paduasoy sure! I've found some old faves in trawling through the library catalog, but other contemporary suggestions would be great. If you have any faves that center young Black girls as the older sister, that'd be ideal.

Re: additional big sister book suggestions, I would recommend Lola Reads to Leo. And if she likes that, there are lots of other Lola and Leo books in the series!
