Which episode of the X-files am I thinking of?

I recall an episode of the X-files, vaguely, where Scully and Mulder are both in their respective motels rooms, drinking. It's pretty flirty, pretty funny, and has a tone different than a lot of the show.

It is NOT Syzygy, which has Mulder drinking vodka with orange juice concentrate in a motel room, and flirting with the local detective.

It is NOT the pilot, which has them in their rooms, and has a little bit of weird sexual tension when Scully shows Mulder her mosquito bites.

It is NOT the one where Mulder, Scully, and Skinner are all drinking wine in their own bubble baths, talking on the phone.

Any ideas? Did I imagine it?

My guess is Detour:

MULDER: It’s open. (SCULLY enters with tray of cheese and mini bottle of wine.) Who cut the cheese?
SCULLY: Since you won’t be making it to the conference ....
MULDER: Partaaayyy!
SCULLY: However, I must remind you this goes against the Bureau’s policy of male and female agents consorting in the same motel room while on assignment. (opens wine)
MULDER: Try any of that Tailhook crap on me, Scully, I’ll kick your ass.

Oh, or if they're in separate rooms, maybe the bit in Bad Blood about the pizza and the vibrating beds? That whole episode is doing its own funny jokey thing.

Darin Morgan write the funniest and most tonally different episodes of the X-Files. I just read the Wikipedia entries for his episodes (from the original series), “Humbug,” “Jose Chung’s From Outer Space,” “War of the Coprophages,” and “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose,” but none of them were dispositive either way. That’s where I’d look, though.

This almost certainly sounds like Detour, mentioned above. At the end of that scene in the hotel room, Mulder rushes out the door to look into the case they just accidentally ran across and Scully has the most “I have just been rejected” look on her face. It also contains this exchange towards the end where Mulder and Scully are stranded in the Everglades risking hypothermia:

Mulder: I was told once that the best way to regenerate body heat is to crawl naked into a sleeping bag with somebody else who's already naked.

Scully: Maybe if it rains sleeping bags, you'll get lucky.

Perhaps you are thinking of Small Potatoes - they are not in their respective hotel rooms, and "Not Mulder" AKA Darin Morgan as Eddie Van Blundht comes over to Scully's apartment with a bottle of wine to flirt with her. "Real Mulder" then appears when they are about to kiss.

I'm pretty sure something like this did happen. Is it "Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster"? That would take place after their divorce so them being alone would have a different vibe.

I met some of my best friends in an XF fan group back in the day, and since I have a terrible memory for the show, I asked them to weigh in.

They said that if it's not Syzygy, Hollywood AD, Small Potatoes, Detour, or Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster, this may have been a fanfic that you're confusing as canon. :D

Response by poster: Watched Bad Blood and War of the Coprophages and they were both GREAT. I guess I am a fan of the goofy episodes?

Alas, neither was the one I am thinking of. Detour next!
