Apple ID different in two places on iPad

I got an alert for "Update Apple ID Settings" on my iPad. When I hit "Continue," it asks for my password, but is showing an old Apple ID email, and there's no option to select another or change it. When i go into iTunes and App Store on the iPad, it shows my correct Apple ID email address as signed in. A bunch of my stuff isn't syncing across devices because of this. HELP!

What is it showing in iCloud settings?

It's also possible under FaceTime/Messages, your Apple ID is different there. Those crevices in the Settings panel would be where you'd check for Apple ID differences: iCloud, Messages, FaceTime, and iTunes & App Store.

Once you find the differing culprit, either remove/sign out and sign in to your current Apple ID, or keep it, depending on what data is stored on that Apple ID. If, for example, iCloud settings shows a different Apple ID email, then you may as well keep it as is, because if you sign out of iCloud, what you have synced will be lost. Apple does not currently provide the ability to merge Apple ID's, sadly.

Hope this helps!

Oh good god, something similar happened to me. You might want to save yourself the confusion of trying to figure it out for yourself and just call Apple support. I tried to fix it and just made it worse.

Response by poster: What is it showing in iCloud settings?

...nothing? Can you explain where you mean I should look? When I choose the top thing in Settings, that says Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes, & Apps it shows the correct email signed in. If I choose iCloud from there, it just shows me how much storage I'm using.

Hope this helps!

Unfortunately, no, I don't understand.

What crevices in Settings? There is no sign-out option for the one using the wrong email. I'm not interested in merging anything - the old email is defunct and the new email has been my Apple ID for some time.

Sadly, long long long past AppleCare on this iPad. Maybe I'll just take it in to one of the Apple Stores in town.

Contact Apple Support. It sounds like your iPad is registered to two accounts, and you'll want assistance sorting out what belongs to each ID on the iPad—installed apps, pictures, emails, other documents. Removing an ID might delete things you want to keep. I think Apple can help you combine the old ID and new ID if you can prove both are yours.

One of the things I'll never understand about my employer is why we decided that our customer support division and extended warranty would have (almost) the same name. AppleCare is the group that does customer support, AppleCare+ is the extended warranty you pay for.

What's probably happened is: A) you are signed into two different AppleIds for iCloud and the iTunes Store right now. Or B) You bought an app using an old store account and now it's asking you to re-enter it to update that specific app.

In any case, I'd start with web/phone help with AppleCare before making an appointment to get into a store. Start here: https://getsupport.apple.com

Unfortunately this is not possible. However, if you call and ask for support with your Apple ID, you can call Apple and get help with that issue. I've done it many times and they have been super helpful.

I don’t have AppleCare and they helped me - maybe because it’s an iCloud issue rather than a device issue?
