Do you like the person who does your taxes?

I'm looking for a good, solid tax preparer. I have someone, but I'm not crazy about her. She does a good job, and maybe that's all I need an accountant to do, but I find her slightly unpleasant to deal with. And she's pricey. I freelance, so I'd appreciate someone who has freelance clients, but it's not essential. I'm in NYC, but they don't have to be, I guess.

I strongly recommend SJ Tax Associates, on 5th Ave in Chelsea. They’ve been doing both my and my business’ taxes for most of 20 years. They’re excellent accountants and very nice.

I am not in NYC but I found my accountant through my professional organization, he gave talks specific to my industry niche about tax and business issues. His whole business is working with freelancers which I do think makes a big difference. If you have some sort of trade organization, ask them for referrals.

Brass Taxes!!! I haven't used them myself, but a good friend works for them and she's awesome. She tells me about how she works with her clients and the vibe sounds great. They do work remotely I think and also have an office in NY.

I've been going to Curt for 20ish years. No idea if he's pricey or not, I just pay whatever. He's worth it. http://www.broadwaytaxprofessionals.com/curt-gruskin.php

Seconding Brass Taxes. We have used them for a few years, and I know at first, they specialized in free lance clients.
