West Ireland or Bust!

I'll be attending a conference in June from Sunday - Thursday in Dublin, but I'm flying out of Shannon on Sunday morning. I was planning on taking the train from Dublin to Galway on Friday morning. Where should I stay and how do I get to Shannon in time to make a 11:30 am international flight?

The first train running from Galway to Sixmilebridge would not allow me enough time to get to the airport on time.

Where should I stay between Galway and Shannon?
Does it make sense to stay in Galway one night and then in Ennis or Limerick for the second night?
What's the most dependable way to get to Shannon airport in the morning?

Special snowflake requirements: I'll have my 4 year old son with me, so I'd prefer staying somewhere that is okay with children and perhaps an area which had things that would interest him too.

Bus Éireann run a service to Shannon from Galway. There's likely to be at least one bus going early enough on a Sunday.

The Bus Éireann timetable for the 51 bus shows the first bus leaving Galway bus station at 07.05 am and reaching Shannon departures at 08.49 am, and the next at 08.05 am reaching Shannon at 09.49 am.

Best answer: Nthing the bus service but when we did a similar trip two years ago, with kids in tow, we hired a car.

We landed in Dublin, drove to Galway where we were spending a few days, stayed at the Jurys Inn, they have a garage underneath, then drove to Shannon.

Irish roads are good, getting into Galway centre in peak hour was a bit tricky though, we went round a couple of times before we found our way to the hotel (and we used to live there...)

Cost v convenience. We were two adults & 3 kids and did do some driving to visit people etc so cost worked out fine for us.
