A musical movie, in three minutes, with no words.

Your tall musical order: I'm looking for instrumental tracks. Less than four minutes. Must have three "acts" that build from a quiet open to a mid-tempo, mid-power second act. Third and final act must end in a jump-out-of-your-chair fist-pump f*ck yeah moment (that may or may not taper away afterwards).

God is an Astronaut’s “All is Violent, All is Bright” is a good model of what I'm looking for, but what I'm looking for doesn’t have to be post-rock.

No vocals or lyrics, sampled or otherwise.

Best answer: Nine Inch Nails - Just Like You Imagined

Best answer: This will destroy you - quiet

(it's a five minutes long, not 10, as the youtube video would have you believe).

Nine Inch Nails - Just Like You Imagined

Clint Mansell - Lux Aeterna and Zack Hemsey - Mind Heist and all the other overused movie trailer songs will likely fit the bill, too.

Best answer: WITHOUT A DOUBT you want Cakes by Max Tundra.

Takes a few listens to assimilate.

Also, there are probably tons of trance records like this one that might fit the bill, though you'd probably have to edit them down.

Look up "intro mix" on youtube for dance records that have been re-edited to start DJ sets and mix cds with, a lot of them are super over-the-top dramatic.

Christmas in Sarajevo by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. (I suck at html linking and there are multiple versions.)

Best answer: I give you, Mogwai - Summer.

That description is all about Mogwai.

Wait, I've got it -- you'll have to edit 2 minutes out of it, but

Sigur Ros - Glosoli

It has a vocal, but it's in icelandic and it just kind of get absorbed into the song.

Best answer: You might like Don Abandons Alice, from John Murphy's 28 Weeks Later soundtrack.

I think this describes every third track (or more) by Explosions in the Sky.

But also Alice Donut's cover of War Pigs. Yes, the Black Sabbath song. Yes, it's completely instrumental.

You just described the entire genre of post-rock.

The best example I can think of is probably First Breath After Coma by Explosions in the Sky.

Best answer: Mass Effect 2 Soundtrack - Suicide Mission. The first time I listened to this, I completely dropped out of reality entirely.

... on preview, well okay it's 4:46, so it's a bit long. I'll leave the link in because it's seriously that awesome to listen to (and if you're needing it for something specific you may be able to edit part of the beginning to make it fit), and make the suggestion that you poke at various other video game soundtracks for ideas.

Best answer: Benway by Tortoise. If you don't mind some space noises at the beginning and a slow build, the end has a huge payoff! Also, I love most of these other suggestions and will be thinking about this genus of song all day.

Came here to recommend the Transiberian Orchestra as well, but scaryblackdeath beat me to it. Here's the link.

Best answer: RATATAT - Sunblocks

Response by poster: Hey, thanks! Tons of great stuff here, and a few bands (Ratatat and Explosions in the Sky, which somehow I'd always heard about but never listened to) that are now on my track-down-or-die list.

Lots of "best answers" -- Jawbreaker has lyrics, unfortunately, and even Sigur Ros made-up wibbly-wombley vocals count as vocals.

Great, great music!

I'm breaking the rules a bit here, but these are the most powerful and uplifting instrumental tracks that sprung to my mind. I think you'll enjoy them.

Meet Me In The Basement - Broken Social Scene
Pruit Igoe - Philip Glass
and, of course:
Gathering Storm - Godspeed You! Black Emperor
(a little over 6 minutes, but otherwise the epitome of what you described)
