Your tall musical order: I'm looking for instrumental tracks. Less than four minutes. Must have three "acts" that build from a quiet open to a mid-tempo, mid-power second act. Third and final act must end in a jump-out-of-your-chair fist-pump f*ck yeah moment (that may or may not taper away afterwards).

Also, there are probably tons of trance records like this one that might fit the bill, though you'd probably have to edit them down.
Look up "intro mix" on youtube for dance records that have been re-edited to start DJ sets and mix cds with, a lot of them are super over-the-top dramatic.

... on preview, well okay it's 4:46, so it's a bit long. I'll leave the link in because it's seriously that awesome to listen to (and if you're needing it for something specific you may be able to edit part of the beginning to make it fit), and make the suggestion that you poke at various other video game soundtracks for ideas.

Best answer: Benway by Tortoise. If you don't mind some space noises at the beginning and a slow build, the end has a huge payoff! Also, I love most of these other suggestions and will be thinking about this genus of song all day.

Response by poster: Hey, thanks! Tons of great stuff here, and a few bands (Ratatat and Explosions in the Sky, which somehow I'd always heard about but never listened to) that are now on my track-down-or-die list.
Lots of "best answers" -- Jawbreaker has lyrics, unfortunately, and even Sigur Ros made-up wibbly-wombley vocals count as vocals.
