SD card USB adapter for mac.

Will this SD card USB adapter play nicely with my MacBook Pro (late 08)?

I'd like to buy this adapter for my late 08 MacBook Pro but can't find any information about whether or not it is compatible. Has anyone out there used this with a mac, or if not, do you have any suggestions? I need it specifically to get photos off of a 2GB SD card - long story but I'm borrowing a friend's camera.

Best answer: I haven't used that one, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. I've used a lot of memory card readers on a lot of macs, and I've never had one not work. Of course, I usually stick to name brands like Lexar and Sandisk.

You say "late 2008." Is it a Unibody? Don't those have an SD card slot built-in? Mine does, but I don't recall if the first rev does...

Response by poster: It is a unibody, but sadly I have only an "expansion slot" no SD :( probably I could upgrade this, but I need something NOW. Thanks for the advice though.

Another vote for "it'll probably work". I have a similar Transcend one that works fine, and every other USB thumb drive I've tried has been issue free.

Best answer: I've used a Kingston USB adapter with success on a 2006 MacBook Pro and a spring 2010 MacBook Air, as well as on some Windows machines. No problems. I don't think the one that I got is still available, but I'd be surprised if the updated versions didn't work.

It will almost surely work and just be mounted like an external drive.

But may I suggest this instead? The convenience factor of always having the reader with you (and not relying on an external dongle that may or may not be in your laptop bag) is HUGE.
