Dis Otter Pop is Frozen but the otter Otter Pop Isn't

Food science, sort of: Why are the Otter Pops we purchased freezing unevenly and somewhat randomly?

My officemates purchased Otter Pops the other day and put them in the freezer (we have a mid-sized fridge with a real freezer, not just a little tray thing), and now, two days later, it seems that only some of them are frozen. In a string of twelve, for example, pops 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 will be frozen but pops 4, 7, 11 and 12 are still completely liquid. On another string, it'll be another random assortment of frozen and unfrozen pops. They are laying folded over (6 on 6) in the freezer, and there's no rhyme or reason whether the top or bottom pops will be frozen completely, nor is there any association between color and time of freeze. What gives?

Air circulation would be my guess.
Lie them down flat (not folded) and put them in the middle of the freezer, not in a corner or in any way that warmer air pockets can get trapped. The more cold air that can woosh freely around them, the more evenly they'll freeze.

OMG. Us too. We just figured it was our crappy freezer (in a mini-fridge). Thanks for asking this question! We are going to try the "Lay them flat" method.

Us three! I'm keeping my eye on this question.

Be careful about trying to separate the frozen pops from the unfrozen! More than once I've tried and had the unfrozen one break open on me, spilling its precious contents.

Take one of the 'unfrozen' pops from the freezer and flick it sharply with your finger. Now watch what happens.
