Have you heard of "jelly babies"?

Gay Lincoln reviews tell me of an old notion of "jelly babies" - what black slaves apparently imagined as the product of gay sex. I'm intrigued but can find no in-depth discussion of this concept. Tell me more.

Sex-lexis.com gives the following definitions:

jelly baby:
1. Anal or vaginal secretions after copulation.
2. A fat person.

Definition #1 seems plausible, in which case, in-depth discussion hardly seems necessary!

I may never look at these in the same way ever again...

The modern, Savage-eque term for it is "Santorum." I don't know that there's much to discuss about it, though.

Response by poster: Ohhh, I get it. So Lincoln made a wickedly dirty joke about Santorum?! Far-out. Truly our greatest president. Thanks to libertine post 60s media culture and the Wild West Internet I'd like to think I'm more warped than could have been possible had I been born in any previous generation and yet I still couldnt come up with shit *that* wack. Lincoln never even lived to see goetze. poor guy.

(for the record I thought it was referring to some sort of arcane slave mythology not just slang. A gay friend in high-school told me that gay sex produces "ass-babies": Apparently they glow in the dark and the gestation period is three-months.)

Especially given that logo design!

Dan Savage keeps a Santorum-watch blog. Someone should forward this thread to him. I'm sure he'd be interested to know the lexical origins of... that stuff.
