Picutres of young presidents meeting old ones.

Are there other pictures of future presidents (prior to their political life) meeting current presidents besides the one of a young Clinton meeting Kennedy?

I'd also like to exclude military pictures, so no Grant meeting Lincoln, or Eisenhower meeting FDR. Within those parameters, do any others exist?

I'd bet money there are some pictures of GWB with GHWB long before the former got into politics.

Though this probably isn't what you mean, maybe there's a pic of TR and FDR.

Response by poster: Unrelated presidents preferred.

This is a photo of the very young Teddy Roosevelt watching Lincoln's funeral procession. (Not quite what you're asking for, but as close as I can come.)

Had Ohio gone the other way, this would be along the lines of what you're looking for.

bromius- is that a young John Kerry?

anastasiav- That's delightfully ridiculous.

As for the answer, I swear I remember something from the Truman book, but I might be confusing that from an episode of MASH...

I hope this link will take you to the Google Books result for The Book of Lists

Check out #5 ("Grover Cleveland makes a Wish for Franklin Roosevelt") and #6 ("Harrison coughs up 25 cents for Hoover")

No photos, but two interesting meetings.

I'm not sure what that comment means. I would've posted anastasiav's answer had I not been beaten to it.

David McCullough's Mornings on Horseback includes this photo. The building is Theodore Roosevelt's (senior) house in New York, and the boys are believed to be young Elliott and Teedee Roosevelt (TR was known as Teedee within the family during his boyhood).

I would bet that Eisenhower visited FDR and was photographed.

That is indeed a young John Kerry, in a rather unfortunate pose.

I'm not sure if this was before his political life, but here's 43 with 40.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean my comment to sound snarky. I was trying to convey more delight than ridicule. I'm not doubting the photo. It just tickled me that such a photo exists given the non-ubiquity of photography in 1865, and that it was kept, and that someone was able to figure out that a seven year old TR was in the window.

It's actually a fascinating moment! One wonders how that moment might have affected TR. Could it have been one of the things that motivated him to rebuild himself from sickly youth into the unstoppable, unflappable, swimming nude in the Potomac man that he became?

And the W photos always amaze me. Like on West Wing, how they say there were two Jed Bartletts, I swear there are two Ws. There's the comfortable, fun loving guy; and there's the nervous, sputtering, don't-screw-this-up, Hooked-On-Phonics guy. I suspect we'd have been better off with the comfortable guy more often... I remember sitting at home one day a few years ago, and there was some kind of Latin-American appreciation ceremony going on on CNN. I was shocked and amazed at how he was relaxed and comfortable, and how he fluidly worked the room. Freely going between Spanish and English.

How about this one? t's got at least three plus at least two guys that fathered Presidents.

The 82nd Congress had Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy, Ford, not to mention a whole pack of other characters like (future VP) Hubert Humphrey, Big Pappa Prescott Bush, FDR Jr., Joseph McCarthy, Estes Kefauver, Fear and Lothing On the Campaign Trail '72 stars Scoop Jackson and Eugene McCarthy...

gjc, I agree with you on that, there was an interview a few weeks ago with W on tv (dont remember what station) and he was bumbling through it, and all of a sudden they ask him a question about baseball and he become well thought out and articulate, the man had the wrong job.

Sorry to derail, I have nothing to add to this, other than this.
