These events have spun up hours of non-repeating tv show content, opinion pieces and comments by folks like us. Short and sweet, for me it just feels like the same old thing. Trump as the glistening pinnacle of white privilege for all time, moving how he pleases and doing whatever he wants to do knowing that ultimately he is in the right because that is who he is. I think most of us have no real feeling that he'll spend any time in prison at all, but I wondered this morning why it feels so obvious and inevitable. And that's why. After seeing "watch whiteness work" for decades and decades in nearly every common day-to-day context imaginable, convincing myself that this gaudy galaxy-sized manifestation of white privilege will get locked in a cell feels like setting myself up for disappointment.
It isn't fascinating to me. It isn't something fun to watch or look forward to. Nothing I've heard or read has been enlightening in such a way as to be empowering because it holds the key to a realistic way out of this mess.

Condensed capsules of digital communication are infecting all forms of reading. But books, the longest form that writing takes, are suffering disproportionately in the reduced attention spans of readers. That's gross and stupid.
