I want to learn PHP and MySQL. I just installed both onto my Mac OS 10.4.2 machine to serve as a sort of testing ground. I also downloaded CocoaMySQL. It's asking for a host, user and password. I assume the host is localhost. However, I can't figure out how to create a user. Can anybody help with that? Also, what would you recommend as the best learning resources for somebody who can get around HTML and CSS, but has very little programming experience?

I'm trying to figure out if this has happened to anybody else.

Last night, in the dead of night, my boyfriend pulled me on top of him and started kissing me and started trying to take my pajama pants off, ostensibly in the hopes of getting laid. I was really tired, so I told him to lay off and let me go back to sleep. This morning I asked him about it and he has no memory of doing this. It's happened before- he'll wake me up in the middle of the night by kissing me, and in the morning denies it ever happened.

I actually think it's pretty cute and funny- and especially ironic, considering he is not the most affectionate guy.

What I'm wondering is, is this normal? Has it ever happened to anyone else?

I need to get 40-60 gigs of data to about 200 customers a month. Currently I am using DVDs and am finding it a total hassle. I am considering harddrives but I think they will be more or less an equivalent hassle. Is there some other way? Downloads seem a little unfeasible due to the size but I'd be interesting in hearing anything.

I have a MySQL database that contains two fields - name and e-mail - for a bunch of records. Separately I have a FileMaker 7 database that contains the same fields - name and e-mail - and contains other fields, like "notes". My question: can the FileMaker database, after polling the MySQL database, show name and e-mail as read-only; and then show the other fields as editable? i.e. if I make a change to the MySQL database, can I get it to show up in FM? We just had the really sad task of putting our pet dog to sleep because she had advanced cancer. Help me find this old DOS computer game. The talk of SkiFree reminded me of a favorite DOS Civil War simulator that was called, get this, Civil War Simulator, CWS.exe. It was a turn-based game, with multiple armies (Jackson, McClellan, Grant, Lee, etc.) that started out in certain cities and the player (as either north or south) moved the troops around to various battles, which were won based on numbers of troops, supplies, skill, location, etc. You could split or fuse your armies to take on more opponent's armies or fight them better and more. My co-blogger and I upgraded from Movable Type 2.64 to MT 3.2, mostly for the rumored spam-fighting hottness. But now we're finding ourselves having to go through and manually junk thousands of spam comments every day, tediously picking out the real stuff. Is there a simple proof to demonstrate the human impact on global climate change? A common argument made by American conservatives is that humans can't possibly have a great enough impact to make a difference. Surely there's some relatively simple bit of logic that can prove our impact. Perhaps something along the lines of: "Global emissions of greenhouse gases amount of X billion tons each year, or Y trillion in the past century. Every Z billion tons of greenhouse gases increase the earth's radiative forcing by A%, each percent of which warms the earth by B degrees."

Despite plenty of googling, and even email with Microsoft's support - I cannot seem to solve my problem. I'm wondering if perhaps any of my fellow geeks have had this problem: I run a web/email server of my own, colocated in a highly reputable facility. For some reason, Hotmail views any email coming from my box as spam, and tosses it in a junk folder. Pushbutton toys. Our 21-month old son absolutely loves anything with buttons, dials, and switches. But he's far past being interested in computer keyboards. Are there soup-to-nuts consultancies that incubate small software startups like this? I need a wide array of advice and help concering: Advantages of onshore vs. offshore physical incorporation and data hosting, choosing a beneficial incorporation structure ( LLC, Partnership, etc. ), understanding my obligations and liabilities to subscribing customers, painless financial management, beautiful multiple-themed CSS templates for pre-existing XHTML pages, and stylish custom icon sets. I have devoted a bit of capital to this and would like to wisely invest in cool people that will complement my inadequacies. I want to setup a Windows 2003 server using my dynamic IP address that I have from Comcast. How can I make this happen? I have a linksys Gateway (WCG200) that has the server and a few other computers connected to it. I am trying to setup a small server for my printing/web hosting/file sharing/remote access needs. I need to see how to setup my DNS & DHCP settings for this to happen. Also I have my own domain name which I would like to use. One or more times weekly, my cat Cooper is afflicted with a very strange problem. The skin on his lower back - near his tail - starts twitching. Like, a lot. He'll stop; turn his head with a sort-of pissed off look and STARE at the spot on his back while it continues to twitch. Eventually he starts licking the spot furiously. After a few seconds of licking, he'll explode from his position and go galloping across the room or - many times - the entire house. It can go on for as many as 10 minutes at times; this series of behaviors. It seems like he’s trying to run away from this invisible force – this “butt ghost” as I’ve come to call it. Can anyone explain this?

Location mapping. I want to map a couple of thousand points (latitude/longditude, csv/excel) across America and come up with a pretty picture as a result. What classic motorbike should I buy? I want a street bike for occasional use that has some pedigree to it. I am looking for suggestions as to what are "classic" bikes - ones that have a solid history and will not be too hard to repair or find parts for. I want something ideally between 350cc and 550cc, but would consider up to a 750. Possible examples would be Honda CB400, BMW R75, I dunno....anything before about 1990. Old is good, but the only caveat is that I do not want a loud bike, so a 4-stroke preferred. The last time I rode it was the late 80's, and I had a '83 Yamaha Vision, which I always thought of as the poor man's beemer - it was liquid cooled and had shaft drive, which seemed pretty cool at the time. (I am not interested in any low riders or racers, although I would not rule out an on/off-road.)

Naturally, all of the tie-dye shirts that I have bought at concerts or made myself over the past few years have faded to a white-pinkish mess after the first wash or two. My Old English sheepdog has developed a very bad habit of using his snout to pop open the lid of our trash can in the kitchen - and then helping himself to whatever's inside. I've tried scolding him, as have my sisters and my parents. All he does is give us that same goofy-looking, puzzled expression, and then fifteen minutes later he's at it again. He's very well-fed and has more than his fair share of daily dog treats. How to go from being a low-energy person to being a high-energy person? I tend to sit around and smoke/drink too much. I hate exercise (though I do force myself). DoctorWhoFilter: in the UK we have a TV show called Doctor Who, in which this dude with a long scarf travels through time in what is essentially a small garden shed called a TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space). More extraordinary than it's time travelling ability though, the TARDIS is actually bigger on the inside - you walk into small garden shed to find huge room the size of a small television studio. Hence, in the UK when you, for example, get into a car that looks kinda small but is actually incredibly roomy inside, one might say, "bloody hell, it's like a TARDIS in here." So the question is, is there an American equivalent?

I have iTunes 5 installed on two machines, one at work, one at home, with my iPod set to sync automatically to the iTunes library on my home machine. When using iTunes 4.x, I was able to attach my iPod to my work machine and then configure the iPod (in the iTunes preferences) to 'manually' update, rather than automatically, enabling me to play files directly off my iPod on my work machine. When I returned to my home machine, I would switch the home machine's iTunes/iPod settings back to 'update automatically', causing iTunes to update the files on the home machine with a new Last Played date and Play Count. iTunes 5, however, seems to have a bug in this regard: it notes a random 10 or 15-song selection of tracks played via the work machine's iTunes 5, but that's all. A day's worth of listening to tracks isn't logged as played, messing up Smart Playlists that grab music I haven't heard in a while. 1) Is this unusual or universal 2) Any fixes? [more inside]

I need to get from Birmingham in the UK to Norwich in the UK without a car. What is the most efficient route to take if I want to go by Coach or Rail (i.e. National Express etc.). Suddenly every time I open a new Internet Explorer (6.02) window, it shuts down all the other IE windows that are currently open. This stinks, and is something that only began about 3 or 4 days ago. It's so bad that when I select 'Open in New Window,' that also closes down the original window. What's going on and how can I fix this?

Here's the background. My girlfriend is from the republic of Ireland. I am antipodean. We both live in the United Kingdom. I am 33, partially sighted (although I lead a very main-stream life and have no disabled friends). I say the part about me being partially sighted because I believe it's a big part of what has made me ME and given me a slightly odd-shaped perspective compared to mainstream western society. My gf is 36. Our relationsip is about 18 months old and seems to suddenly be coming apart. Two main parts of this seem to be 1) the fact that she seems completely unable to discuss / articulate her feelings or accept any kind of responsibility for them and 2) she appears to be trying to drive my friends away. To the unsuspecting, this may seem like an obvious case of incompatibility. It is however similar to what hapened in my previous relationship of five years. Many people, including myself, read personal observations and see references to current events in literature that do not reflect the authors thinking on a subject. An example is the Robert Frost poem Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Evening as being a reflection on suicide. Frost has denied that this was his reference. I recently had a pretty nasty bicycle accident and had to have two metal plates put in my forearm. I have a lovely Xanga skin for my blog, but weirdly it appears to be the only skin which doesn't include an option for a reader to go back and look at my previous posts, and despite my Googling, Xanga-ing and trying to work it out, all I've done is muck it up good and properly. Why does my computer copy music CD's so poorly? I have a Dell 2400 computer with a 48X CD-RW DVD combination drive. Sonic Record Now version 6 software came with it. When I copy music CD's, unless the original is absolutely pristine, the copy will contain skips, even though the original CD plays perfectly on my computer or any other CD player. Any suggestions? I live in the Boston area and would like to go to a bed and breakfast for a long weekend. I have found a number of B&B sites, but each site only has a limited number of inns. I'd like to find a site that is a clearinghouse for B&B's which is more searchable. For example, I'd like a place that is 2 1/2 hours or less from Boston within a certain price range, etc. So far, all the sites I've been two have been so limited. Any ideas? I have a T-shirt, it says "Kut Jagate Meno" in big letters underneath that to the side it says KANAAN COLL in small letters. Help fix my jumpy Mac OS X Universal Access Zooming! I use the zoom function of OS X's Universal Access to help me read things and watch videos and such. This has been working wonderfully until I switched my monitor configuration from both of my monitors side-to-side to the current configuration of having one monitor on top of the other. Now when I zoom in and move the mouse at all, the zoomed in rectangle jumps so that the bottom edge is stuck to the bottom edge of the bottom monitor. How did Kubrick film the psychedelic 'stargate' sequence of "2001: A Space Odyssey"? Some of the movie's special effects are obviously crude CGI (like the cockpit displays during spacecraft rendezvous) but the ending seems far more sophisticated. Regular old animation? I have a standard cable television cord that runs from through a small hole in my living room floor (coming up from the basement). I would like to re-route this cable to another part of the house. I need to edit some video files I've shot on my camera. The problem is that the camera's video files export as .MOV and I can't find a good entry-level Windows program that supports the file type. Could someone recommend either a program that will let me edit this file type, or a good freeware converter? And if I do change them over to .AVI, what are some recommendations for a good yet simple Windows video editor?

Once I read a story about people who could give a disease to computers. Or possibly they could catch this disease through the keyboard. I'm a freelance web developer, and I've recently set up a PayPal business-level account to take payment from clients who prefer that method. AVG is showing my system as sending POP email to dyn-83-157-113-1999.ppp.tiscali.fr about every 10 minutes. I already use Firefox and I have scanned my system with MS Antispyware, Adaware, AVG and Spybot and they have come up blank. I don't use POP email. Any suggestions on how to clear this problem up?
