Band at the Limelight

In the early 90's I saw a band at the Limelight in New York. The band was made up entirely of percussion instruments. There were maybe 10 people playing and they were all painted gold. I cannot for the life of me remember what they were called and it's driving me nuts. Does sound familiar to anyone?

Were they all girls? Was it maybe earlier than the early 90s?

If so, Pulsallama.

In the late '90s at CBGBs, I saw a not all-percussion-but-still-roughly-ten-people-painted-gold band called Paint.

Did they also have gold lamé leotards on?

(On a subsequent trip, I saw another band at CBGBs who were also called Paint, but they weren't in gold and they sounded a lot like Kill Hannah).

M'Boom was a percussion ensemble led by the late Max Roach. To the best of my knowledge, though, they never performed in gold paint.

Sounds like Blue Man Group to me... but obviously the wrong color. And too far uptown.

Was it Crash Worship?

Crash Worship is my first guess, too. Followed by Hitting Birth, maybe?

Crash Worship had more than just percussionists. Nor have I ever seen them all painted gold.

Here's a helpful visual of a Crash Worship show. I'd say it's quite representative.

This is just chatter, but Crash Worship was the best concert I've ever been to. I saw them years ago in Cleveland in the old Grog Shop.
