Three days in Geneva 25/26/27th March. Smashing atoms during the day. What to do in the evening?

I was going to recommend a visit to Chillon Castle, in Montreux, Switzerland, but it looks like they are not open late enough in the day for you.

I was only in Geneva for a few days back in 1999, visiting friends, so mostly I went out to bars and restaurants, none of which I can recall the names of. Taking the train out to Montreux was the only sight-seeing thing I currently recall that I did.

I have not been to Geneva, but two of my best friends have, several times. They always make a point to go here for steak frites. With refills.

Get smashed yourself.

Everyone I know complains Geneva is boring. OTOH you've only got 3 days and you're there smashing atoms, so I imagine you'll be fine in town. Honestly, I'd just make friends with some of the other atom smashing researchers who no doubt know exactly where to go for a good beer.

My main tourist memory from being there for a few days was a pleasant boat tour on Lac Leman; there's probably evening cruises. I also have a fond memory of having fondue at the Hotel Edelweiss, an impossibly touristy restaurant full of Japanese tour groups and folk musicians yodelling and playing alpenhorns indoors. Should Swiss kitsch not be your thing, Geneve has a lot of very fine restaurants. The Michelin guide can give you some ideas for a fancy meal.

If you have to get out of Geneve, the Swiss train system is the best in Europe and Geneve is right on a main line. Lausanne's an interesting town and easy to get to. I'd skip Montreux.
