Fix for Audio Being Out of Sync with Video on Nikon Coolpix 4500

When I record video on my Nikon Coolpix 4500, the sound is a fraction of a second out of sync, which is enough to turn every family video into a kung foo movie. Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

I don't have the camera myself, but with my sony and canon still cameras I've found they are better at stills and the video function is very lacking. If there's a lot of data in the image and in the audio, the camera probably can't keep up. Keeping the image pretty locked down when there's dialog might help it keep track.

Having said that, there's a program called sync-hole for mac os that allows you to retrack the audio and video channels. I'm sure there's a Win32 program that might be able to do the same thing but don't have a clue what it might be called.

In my DV editing days, whenever I'd import audio at the wrong frequency it'd create the "kung-foo" effect, or as I called it the "oh my god I spent how long importing and rendering and it does this?".

I figured out it had to do with me importing the audio as the default 44hz and not what the camera recorded at... I can't remember the frequency. Anyway if there's a way to fool around the frequency settings I'd try that. It sounds like the source of your problems. I can't imagine the camera being made to keep video frame rates up at the expense of sound sync. Usually the frame rate will drop while the sound will keep up. Of course, I've never recorded video with my digital camera.
