Pittsburgh to Washington, PA?

What's the easiest/quickest/cheapest way to get from Pittsburgh to Washington, PA without a car?

I live in Pittsburgh (oakland/squirrel hill, if that matters). I have a city bus pass, a bicycle, no car, and little money. Are there any transportation solutions that will be able to take me to and from Washington, PA on a somewhat regular basis? The farthest south the city buses seem to go is Upper St. Clair, which is about halfway to Washington.

The only thing I've been able to think of so far is taking my bicycle with me on the bus (if they'll let me), then biking the rest of the way. This is less than optimal. Help, yinzers!

When you say somewhat regular basis, what do you mean? Are you going their daily to meet a committed time (like a job)? Or are you just taking a day trip once in a while to visit? Do you need to take anything with you?

In the Cleveland area, the buses have racks in the front on which to put your bicycle. Not sure about Pittsburgh. But if riding halfway isn't going to be good, I suppose riding the whole thing (which was going to be my suggestion) is out of the question?

Riding at 10 mph (which is not a difficult pace to keep), it would take you 3 hours to do the whole thing - an hour and a half from where the bus would drop you off. But if you do it regularly, you can really get that time down, plus you'll be getting excercise.

That is a tough one. Greyhound doesn't even go there. One of the local universities (Washington and Jefferson or California University of Pennsylvania) might have a shuttle.

Otherwise, it might be a good idea to post something on Craigslist asking to carpool. Offer to pay for gas and see what happens. There is also the Pittsburgh Carpool Center.

Response by poster: No, nothing like a daily commute. Something more like weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly.

Ootsocsid: thanks!
