Like David Rose, but less money

I'm looking for ways to dress more like David Rose (character on Schitts Creek) or Dan Levy, but on ... not the budget of the show. Ideally every piece would be below $100, but I have no idea how ridiculous that is. I am also open to the idea of sewing or modifying my own stuff.

I love David Rose's style, though it can be less all black than his and more colorful, like Dan Levy's.

I am a female-bodied woman who wears, roughly, size L (size 14ish), so note that a lot of the cheaper "one size" type options will not fit me.

Looking at photos of the character online, it seems like he is wearing a lot of women's sweaters with striking patterns, and a bit 80s flavoured. He also does some collarless shirts, and a few collared but always buttoned all the way to the top. He pairs these with skinny jeans/trousers.

If you're trying to go for a "dapper queer" look, many of these clothes won't read the same on your body as on a male-bodied person. What reads as queer on a male body may read as very cis (and a bit conservative) on a female body.

But if you're looking for these types of sweaters - or even more colourful ones - I think you could find many at local thrift stores. If you're in Toronto, I would recommend the large Value Village at Bloor & Landsdowne: it's organized by size and has a large selection of men's and women's clothing.

His sweaters also tend to be hip length (or even a bit longer) rather than waist length, which adds to the gender-play.

I think you could probably buy black sweaters or tops and then modify them as per Worn on TV

His clothing is by and inspired by designer Rick Owens to give you a jumping off point.
