Looking for junior-high school level reading anthology, early 1980s

Am steadily repurchasing most of my favorite books I had growing up. (Gotta contribute to the economy somehow, I guess.) This was a reader, with short stories that included a condensed version of "Flat Stanley."

It also included:
  • A story about a Scottish bagpipe teacher named MacSkirl (sp?), who was jealous of his student and some magic happened
  • A story about African-American siblings who bought their mother a new lampshade
  • There may have been a condensed Beverly Cleary story ("Tin Lizzie"?)
The illustrations were different for each story; for example the Flat Stanley pictures were from the original book.

Also: are there places on the internet besides Metafilter where one posts book queries like this?

Thank you!

Best answer: Can't help you on the book itself, but as for similar book-finding sites:

What's that book called?

Best answer: Perhaps a lead in searching for anthologized versions of your stories:

"> The Magic Bagpipe - the wondefully written and illustrated story about
> young Donald MacCrimmon, his lessons from the mean and nasty Piper
> MacSkirl, how he obtains the fairy pipes, and how he wins the big
> competition to be heralded as "The Piper To The Chief"! A great book!

I suppose it does. It says it's by Gerry & George Armstrong and was
printed in 1964. "

Best answer: Oh! This may help.

"I found out those three are from "All Sorts of Things," 1969, by the
late Theodore Clymer and Gretchen Wulfing. ... Other stories in that reader are "The Dragon in the Clock Box," "Flat Stanley" (also slightly edited), and Beverly Cleary's "Grandpa and the
Tin Lizzie."

If that's your book, it's available on Amazon.
