Help me make my trip to Sweden awesome.

I decided it's time to visit the Motherland, and I have no idea where to start. (It won't be this summer, but probably next.)

I've used priceline years ago for cheap rates, but which of these other websites can I trust for cheap tickets. Part Two: I wouldn't mind a tour if it left, say, half of the time for me to explore on my own -- I don't want every day booked, but if it included hotels, that would be one less thing to deal with. So vetted tour companies would also be appreciated. I am also interested in B & B-type places and staying with families, but I am more interested in personal experiences than brochures. Driving, telephones -- any and all advice welcome. I found one link but it was more about where to go, etc. Thanks.

I only saw the most obvious tourist attractions on my trip to Stockholm, but since you mention it's the motherland for you as well - I wish I had found the app/site Duolingo and started learning Swedish before I went. I'm on level 9 now after about 6 months and it's such a fun language, it would have been super cool to go there with some knowledge of it beyond the basic greetings I already knew.

I went to this last year with a Swedish friend of mine. It was a lot of fun - there was a huge long parade of old time souped up cars from all over Sweden and Europe and it just felt like it one big happy party town. Vasteras is not really that far from Stockholm; we took a bus. If you can time your visit for that week, it's worth it just for people watching. Also, Norwegian airlines had really good prices from the US, if you are originating from there.

Since you want to stay with families, you might consider WWOOFing. You work on a farm in exchange for room and board. It's a great way to get to know people!
