Articles / books comparing writing to other artistic mediums

Can anyone point me to articles or books which investigate the artistic advantages and disadvantages of writing vis-a-vis other mediums like film (e.g. what effects can written documents have that movies cannot, and vice-versa)?

Best answer: This might be a longshot, and it's an old book(1983), but Martin Meisel's Realizations: Narrative, Pictorial, and Theatrical Arts in Nineteenth-Century England was a source I used when I was writing on stage adaptations of novels. You should be able to read a review here.
