What the hell just happened?

What are some of the light-hearted, bizarre news stories of the past twelve months? For a Christmas quiz, I'm trying to get something for each month. September, there was the woman who painted over Jesus. For this month, Darwin the Ikea monkey. But I'm stuck on some of the other months.

This is in the UK, so ideally things we would've heard of over here.
