help me find the right wireless audio setup

Please help me pick wireless computer speakers.

My dog chewed up the cords on my old computer speakers. I'd like to replace them with wireless speakers.

Ideally, it would work such that you plug some sort of transmitter into you computer (win xp) that you can then use as an audio out (i.e., every sound made on the laptop will be pushed to the speakers). I think that rules out certain systems focused on music playback only (i.e., squeezebox, which was mentioned in a few previous questions). A bonus would be the ability to plug it into a sound source other than a computer. I think Sony's Altus system does this, but the reviews for it don't seem great.

If you've found something that works along these lines, I'd love to hear about it.

I read a review recently about the JAMBOX. It looks super-cool. I don't know if it's the best thing for your setup, but maybe it's worth looking into?

I bought two of these indoor/outdoor wireless speakers a few years back. At the time, they were between $60-$80. They're now discontinued, but the same company makes other models as well. I LOVE them. I have one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. They work with my computer, my iPod, and any other device with the same kind of audio output port. I've never had any trouble with them. They allow me to listen to podcasts as I go from room to room and without having to wear earbuds at home. My only small complaint is that whenever the audio stops playing on the computer, or when the iPod comes to the end of a playlist, within a few seconds, the speakers will start playing static loudly, and even if I restart the audio on the computer/iPod/whatever, I have to walk over to the speakers and push a reset button to get them to re-seek the proper channel and stop playing static. However, that's only a mild annoyance, and overall I've been very pleased with them.

Take a look at Audioengine. I have a pair of the Audioengine 5's, which I love; at some point I'll probably shell out for the W1 wireless adapter, which will make my setup exactly what you're looking for.

(The A5's are ~$325 on Amazon; if you want smaller/cheaper, Audioengine also makes the A2, which goes for ~$200.)

Just curious if subtle-t ever picked out one of these options and drew any conclusions or if anyone else has new tech to add?
