Conference-room-naming filter (since yall are so damn good at it).
My company is remodeling the 5th floor of our midtown NYC offices. Here's the deets:
"In order to align our office with the City in which we live and work, we’re interested in naming our seven conference rooms – six on the Fifth Floor and one on the Sixth Floor – after local landmarks, streets or neighborhoods (e.g. Brooklyn Bridge, Cobble Hill, Tribeca, Yankee Stadium, Coney Island/Cyclone, you get the idea). However, we are not limited to these suggestions - feel free to use your creativity."
That's about the long and the short of it - I need 7 preferably related names for conference rooms that deal with NY places. There's too many neighborhoods, not enough boroughs, etc., so I'd like to use your creativity.

Remodeling is a bull market idea in a big bear market. I would name them after 6 mayors of New York with the top floor going to the current mayor whomever that may be.

Not landmark related, but I'd lobby for the Seven Deadly Sins...I can see the memos now:
"Please remember to bring your first quarter TPS reports to the staff meeting today, which will be held in Greed at 4:00. It will be followed by a quick birthday celebration for Lou from HR in Gluttony. Special thanks go to Maria for picking up the cupcakes."

I don't have specific name suggestions but do suggest that if at all possible you assign the names in a way that makes sense spatially. I often find the cutesy named things are hard to find if you don't use them all the time. Of course ignore this if your office is really small.

Best answer: In line with sports teams, why not stadium names? (Yankee, Shea, Polo Grounds, Ebbets Field, Madison Square Garden)
Famous NYC restaurants (Katz's, Lombardi's, Carmine's)
Parks (Central, Prospect, Tompkins Square, Washington Square)

Uh, with what mmascolino said, there are plenty of landmarks/locations in NY that can work like that, and they'll be easy to find, same way those places are easy to find in the city.
"Staff meeting in the East River conference room," you can remember the location of that easier than the "SoHo" room. Unless you're using SoHo as south.

Neighborhoods would seem to be more likely than restaurants or theaters. You don't want it to seem like the conference rooms are sponsored...

There's dozens to choose from.

Too bad New York doesn't have 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.6 and a 6.1 Streets.
I would find the naming scheme frustrating.
Meeting with Sales in 5.4 is so much easier than Meeting with Sales in Shea Stadium.

How about street life crazies: the Naked Cowboy, the African American guys in robes who shout at white tourists...
You could try famous riots, crown heights, the civil war draft riots.
You could consider suburbs: Larchmont, Short Hills, Greenwich.
Museums might be a less controversial choice: the Met, MOMA, the Whitney, the Sex museum...

Name off the top of my head: Fiorello H. La Guardia (For too many reasons to list), Margret Sanger (Reproductive Rights), Peter Cooper (Free education for women) , Jackie Robinson (I mean, come on), Jane Jacobs (Fighting to save, among other things Washington Square Park), Jacob Riis ("How the Other Half Lives").

Or how about NYC-specific architecture? Could do famous buildings (Woolworth, Chrysler, Empire State, etc.) or something more like..."We're meeting in the Brownstone Room at 2" and highlight different TYPES of NYC architecture.
This might make everyone hungry, but you could name each room after a NYC-famous food (bagels, pizza, cheesecake...)
