Sisters and I want to meet somewhere in the middle, between Connecticut and eastern Tennessee. We would like something that is a reasonable drive from each state. We are looking for a quaint type town, maybe a bed and breakfast, walking to restaurants and browsing antique stores? Not spending too much money would be nice. Close to the 81. Was thinking about northeastern VA-ish. We will be going end of July for 2 nights.

What to do in Richmond VA? I'm in town next week and I just found out that the Flying Squirrels' opening day is still two weeks away---so no baseball for me--any recommendations for fun in the general Richmond area? I am looking for some simple scenic hiking in Shenandoah National Park to do on a day trip starting out driving from Charlottesville, VA and returning on the same day. I'm looking for something comfortable and not too technical but have no problems with exertion. I don't want have to clamber over rocks, ford rivers or get too dirty but I am willing to go for long uphill walks. Basically, I am fit but not outfitted for serious off trail hiking on this vacation.

Mrs. COD and myself are headed to VA Beach this weekend, and my efforts to secure a nice hotel cheap via Hotwire / Priceline have not panned out. We are visiting with friends on Chick's beach, so staying somewhere around the Norfolk Airport keeps us within 15 minutes of their place, which is fine. Has anybody stayed at a Norfolk Airport hotel recently? The reviews on the travel sites are kind of scary, but I'm hoping it's just Internet trolling and it's not really that bad. Cheap is good - we just need a place to crash Saturday night. Any recommendations from recent personal experience?

Help. Mrs. McMurphy's birthday is this weekend. We've been planning to go out to a nice (you know, "cute", but not crushingly frilly) B&B in the Shenandoahs. Of course, last minute planning is constraining our options. Airbnb has been good to me in the past, but whats available now seems to have more of the "extra room at my house" kind of vibe than "remote romantic spot in the country" vibe that we're looking for. Any suggestions or experiences with nice, interesting places to stay - not necessarily strictly bed and breakfast, even - in the area? Bonus points for other activity suggestions in the region.

In celebration of our 20th anniversary on Friday, Mrs COD and myself will be leaving the teenagers at home while we spend the weekend at a B&B in Kilmarnock VA. We plan to take the ferry over to Tangier Island on Saturday. Is anybody familiar enough with Kilmarnock to recommend restaurants for dinner, or which of the options on Tangier will deliver the best lunch? I know it's not a big town, that was the point. This is a quiet getaway and eat good seafood kind of weekend. Neither of us are up for the summer crowds of VA Beach or DC. Thanks!

[AviationFilter]I live in a medium-sized college town in central VA. Starting at about 8:30pm (and continuing as of this post at 9:46pm), we have had two smaller prop planes buzzing our neighborhood. We do live within a half-mile of the airport. These planes are flying at less than 1000 ft. What is the "cut-off" time for this kind of thing? [more inside]
