Walkable Non Downtown San Antonio

I'm visiting San Antonio this week for work and will have time to explore during the evenings. I'd like to check out the neighborhood(s) that I would live if I had to live there (this is an exercise, I don't have plans to move to SA) . Details inside. Not sure if this place exists, but something close would be nice to check out: [more inside]

The old hometown looks the same

Can anyone recommend a gym in San Antonio, TX that you know for a fact offers a guest pass? I'm in Monte Vista, so somewhere in the greater downtown area would be great, but is not required. Thank you!

Remember the Alamo! Or, don't: recommendations for 3 days in San Antonio

Other than getting tickets for a game if the Spurs are in town, what should I not miss? Bonus points for quirky or outstanding offbeat places to eat, see, or things to do. Is the Alamo worth it? The zoo? I can get a car, or not. Hotel is maybe 15 min walk from downtown/riverwalk area. Late May timeframe. Coming from the Pacific Northwest, is it going to be hot and humid? [more inside]

Bed and Breakfast in the Texas Hill Country

My company has offered me a weekend at a B&B in the Texas Hill Country in thanks for 10 years of service. Looking on the web there appear to be thousands of them, with wildly scattered reviews depending on which review site one chooses. Having had mixed experiences with B&B's, I thought I'd turn to the green for suggestions. If you've been to one in that area that you would recommend (or steer us away from), please write below.

What are the cheapest cities to fly to on United?

I'm in San Antonio. I am going to be 1,454 miles short of making platinum on United Airlines at the end of the year. I'm trying to find a site or something that would allow me to find the cheapest round trip flight that would get me another 1,500 miles I could make on a single day before the year is out. Is there anything like this? [more inside]

San Antonio, Austin and environs - where do we want to go

My partner and I are headed to San Antonio at the end of July so that he can go to a conference and I can visit Texas for the first time. We like cities, and nature, and are especially interested in how people organize and live together in whatever communities they've got (ie. social & political history and sociology). Other happy holiday finds have included biking Montreal's The Main and La Chine Canal, the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago and taking 3 kinds of trains to get to a hilltop overlooking Vienna. American contact for motor home innovation?

I know this is a next to impossible inquiry but I'm doing it for a very kind Australian friend who requested I do research in this area for a friend of his who, also, lives in Australia. It seems that this man has created a very innovative and clever new design for the interior of a motor home (they do a lot of "caravaning" in Australia) and he would like to be able to find an American contact so he can come to the U.S. and exhibit his design at motor home/caravan shows here. Where would I begin to look?

Caribbean vacation

My parents have backlogged their timeshare weeks and are giving one of those weeks to my wife and me. No kids. We are trying to find the best place to go during the first full week of March. What are your thoughts of Jamaica (Montego Bay), St. Lucia (north part of island), Grand Bahama Island, Dominican Republic, and/or Barbados? We'd like to spend some days on the beach relaxing, but we also really enjoy hiking, getting outdoors, and doing fun activities (bike riding, scooters, scuba/snorkel, etc.). Also, we're interested in good food, though most of these places are all-inclusive. We are total Caribbean noobs so any advice on how to narrow down our choices would be great. St. Lucia looks the coolest (volcanoes!) but also would require the most effort on our part (renting a car and driving from one side of the island to the other). Thanks!
