I lived in Austin in the late 80's and the early 90's. Left and never really went back. I have only one friend left in the area (and he, technically, now lives in Round Rock, though he works in the city). We'll be visiting for a wedding and I'd like to know what are the good restaurants (particularly breakfast and vegetarian) and the decent craft cocktail bars that are not hold-overs from the late 80's/early 90's. In other words, "no Kerbey Lane suggestions, please". Bonus points for a good hotel.

There's a conference I'd like to go to in Austin at the beginning of November, but Minipenny is still breast feeding which complicates things. Misterpenny and I talked about making it a short family trip. A couple of days (well, day and a half) on our own and then a day and a half (and at least one evening) of him being on full childcare duties and me at the conference. I used to have the conference travel down, and enjoyed getting to see a bit of a new city, but it's a whole new ballgame now...we've never traveled with the baby, and have never been to Austin, so I'm having trouble knowing how to go about the planning, or if this is even a good idea.
