East side of Dallas eclipse viewing planning

A little late to the game here but I posted previously with a plan for plane travel but we came to Dallas by car instead. So, I need ideas for where to go on the East side of town to have a good view of the eclipse, and I need help figuring out how early to leave our hotel to get to that side of town to avoid being stuck on the interstate somewhere when the eclipse starts. We are staying at The Colony.

Best part of Dallas, TX for an April eclipse visit?

Walkable Non Downtown San Antonio

I'm visiting San Antonio this week for work and will have time to explore during the evenings. I'd like to check out the neighborhood(s) that I would live if I had to live there (this is an exercise, I don't have plans to move to SA) . Details inside. Not sure if this place exists, but something close would be nice to check out: [more inside]

Looking for highrise hotel overlooking a busy harbor

I've got a week to kill and I'd like to do it sitting in a hotel room and watching the ships come and go. Cost is an issue -- flying there and back (starting in Mexico City) plus the cost of the hotel -- but other than that and a preference for staying out of the snow the world is open. Suggestions?

Two September days in Austin

I’ll be tagging along with my partners on a business trip to Austin 9/18-9/20. Tell me all the things I can cram into 2 nights and 2 days! We’re queer, we love to eat, drink fancy coffee, and would love to see some live music while we’re there. We will probably have a car. I’ve already got Barton Springs on my list. I’ve only ever driven through Texas so I would also be down to do touristy Texas things. Thanks y’all!

IAH outdoor hangouts?

I have a several hour layover in Houston (IAH) and would like to go outside and take off my mask. I don't mind going through security again. I'm aware it can be really hot, I don't mind the heat as long as I'm in full shade. Where should I go within reasonable walking distance from the terminals? [more inside]

I made a huge mistake. Austin in the Covid summer. Help.

Lower-risk bathroom options on I-77 South (US)

We have to drive from Cleveland to the Asheville, NC area on Monday. We are trying to avoid the enclosed, potentially aerosol-virus-laden environment of public restrooms. They might be unavoidable for two adults and a 9yo girl, but I’m hoping that you will have some good tips about less-traveled options, places with great ventilation or some other ideas. We’ve never made the trip before and, you know, pandemic. It is not, unfortunately, optional, so any “don’t travel” advice is not going to be helpful.

Where can I park near Chinatown in Houston?

I planned a dumplings date in Chinatown (9900 Bellaire), this Saturday at noon. I bet it's going to be nuts. Coming from Medical Center / Midtown, should we park my car somewhere nearby and take a lyft for the last mile? Where should we park?

Help me maximize our experience visiting Space Center Houston

What should I do to maximize a mid-October visit to Space Center Houston? We will be staying at a nearby hotel and using uber. I have tickets for the Level 9 VIP Tour, which includes Space Center Admission for the next day. We are interested in seeing any iconic displays, Saturn V, mission control, space shuttle, Gemini/Apollo capsules, etc, and have no interest in gimmicky ones like Galaxy Lights. The more detailed and adult-oriented space, science, and engineering content the better. [more inside]
