How Do I Reserve A Taxi between Brooklyn and Manhattan

Asking for a friend traveling 1000 miles to NYC for surgery. They’re staying in Brooklyn, procedure is in Manhattan. The prospect of street hailing a cab before and after surgery is scary. They want to travel with a professional driver. In their small town, they call the cab company a couple days ahead to schedule a ride. I've searched for a central dispatch phone number without results. Are ride-hail apps like CURB or waave reliable?

Have dog, boat, kid, and sometimes car, will travel

I live in Brooklyn and I'm looking for places within, say, a two hour drive that I can go with two adults, a three year old kid, and a 25 pound puppy to ideally hike, swim (or at least splash in some water) and paddle around a little in our inflatable kayak. It's surprisingly hard to find places around the city that allow all three of those things -- swimming, dogs, and kayaks! [more inside]

How do I entertain a teen around Crown Heights?

I have a sister and 16-year old niece visiting Brooklyn this weekend and need some ideas for keeping them entertained. They're staying in Crown Heights, I'll be in Cobble Hill, and I'm just looking to keep us all occupied in one or both neighborhoods for a couple days. Any ideas?

Light refreshment near NYBG

Meeting friends at the NYBG tomorrow, and I'm wondering if folks here could recommend a good place to stop for some light refreshment around there? Preferably not too expensive. One of us is a teetotaller.

Help me plan my weekend!

I'm driving to the city this week for work and I've decided to extend my stay to the weekend. I'm having a lot of weird anxiety planning my free time. Can you help? Details inside! I'd really, really appreciate it if you would just pass this thread by if you're feeling any kind of strong reaction to my travel plans. Thank you ❤️] [more inside]

What should we do in NYC in June with a kiddo?

We will be in NYC in June (23-25), while we are vaccinated kiddo (9) is not. Any Covid friendly activities anyone can suggest? Likely staying near Central Park and my wife is not excited to get on a subway. Thinking museums with really limited capacity, outdoor exhibits, etc. Kiddo has only been to NY once in the winter for a show and our usual past haunts are not kiddo friendly.

Winter day trips by car from Brooklyn

A question about places to see + stuff to do in upstate NY.

What would you recommend to do in upstate NY, anywhere within a three hour drive of Hunter, NY. Open to anything available during coronavirus, but specific interests include modern/contemporary art, socialism/anarchism/antifascism/leftism, government/civics, (vegetarian) food, animals, factory/food tours (learning about how anything is made), architecture, nature, urban/abandoned exploring.

How to get plates fast in New York for a Craigslist private-sale car?

The DMV is only taking drop-off and mail-in registrations for new car purchases, because of COVID. I didn't realize the turnaround for them to mail the plates is ten days. Does anyone know any workarounds for this? We have non-negotiable plans to take care of family out of state sooner than that, and I could sure use some help. [more inside]

Public garage spaces for bicycles in NYC & Jersey City

I’d like to hear about bicycle garages — or even better, publicly available climate-controlled bike rooms — with spaces for monthly rental in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Jersey City. Automobile garages that also have spaces for bikes could also qualify. The most important features are 1) protection from the elements 2) some security against theft 3) ease of access during business hours, but 24-hour access would be even better. I’ve checked a couple on this list but they’re pretty exposed to potential thieves or are outrageously priced (as much as it would cost to park a car).

Is an hour long enough to tour Manhatten?

I will have a 5 hour stopover in Newark Airport (EWR) this Friday, Dec 27, from 3pm to 8pm, with two kids (11 and 13) in tow. I want to surprise them with a whirlwind experience in Manhattan at Christmas time so they can see how spontaneous and carefree I am. I am neither carefree or spontaneous. Is this possible in reality and do you have any tips? [more inside]

One afternoon in Brooklyn - what's the latest and greatest?

I'll be in NYC (specifically, Williamsburg) the afternoon of Monday October 28th w/ nothing in particular to do. What's the most not-to-be-missed thing happening right now that I could conceivably do during this time? I'll be arriving around lunch time, and will need to be back at National Sawdust in Williamsburg by around 7 or so. [more inside]
