If you do not arrive before 10pm, you will not party – Boston edition

A group of us will be in town the first weekend in December. Going out in unfamiliar cities is tricky. Where do all the cool queer kids party the first weekend of the month? And by kids I mean 25-45 year olds, 90s hip hop / top 40 /songs with lyrics you probably know loving types, possibly but not necessarily hipsters who hate lining up and don’t love paying cover. Looking for a fun, unpretentious bar to drink and dance, with an approachable crowd. [more inside]

Best Cellular Data for MBTA Providence / Stoughton Line

I'm trying to get some work done on the train from Providence to Back Bay. I have Verizon Wireless, which works well until about Mansfield inbound. After that I barely have data at all. The in-car wifi is mostly non-operational and unusable (I have heard that the new management company is prioritizing upgrading the wifi but that's an 18 month project). What cell network do you use for reliable data service for this journey?

Where to go with a Zipcar in Boston for three hours?

BostonFilter: Quick! I have a Zipcar reservation from 10am to 1pm today, and the appointment I rented it for has been canceled. Since I'm eating the cost either way, I want to do something with the reservation, but I'm short on ideas. What should I do that's either useful or fun for someone who rarely has access to a car? Getting from Boston Logan to Providence by rail

I'm traveling to E. Greenwich, RI for a wedding in September and it's about $60 cheaper per person to fly into Boston than to Providence (arrive Thursday 3 pm - depart 7 pm Monday) I don't really want to deal with the traffic driving from Boston to Providence so I'm looking into rail options but I can't make heads or tails of the MBTA schedule. 1) Can I pick up the Providence line at the airport or would I have to get a cab or bus to the train? 2) Can I take my luggage (probably two bags)? 3) Can I rent a car on arrival in Providence? 4) What will it cost?

how/where do I buy a used bicycle in Greater Boston?

I would like to purchase a beater bicycle. I will use it to go several miles along a maintained bike path to get to a subway station. My ideal scenario: I travel to a location where there are several shit bicycles. I select one of the shit bicycles, I hand someone a smallish amount of money, and I stop thinking about purchasing a bicycle. I don't care if it is a pink bicycle covered in swastikas provided that it works and is reasonably priced. Let's make this happen!

Help planning route from Boston to Vegas

I'm leaving at 10am tomorrow from Waltham, MA and driving to Las Vegas. Stressing over the weather. I plan on taking it slow...driving maybe 8-9 hours a day and not at all after dark. I've never driven in bad weather so I'm really nervous. If I take Northern route I'll be in snow in Denver and if I take Southern route there are severe thunderstorms (and poss tornadoes?) in OK and TX by Wed. and Thurs. I'm driving alone and this is my first road trip. BTW I have a Nissan Rogue that will be packed full. Looking for advice planning route home...details appreciated! Thanks!

What to do in Boston this weekend?

What's fun to do in Boston this weekend? I'm familiar with the city and have done all the usual stuff, but haven't been in a year. What great new restaurants and bakeries have opened? What are the must-see museum exhibitions? Are there are any cool events happening in the next two days -- particularly anything quirky, offbeat, playful?

Moving to Boston, MA from Auckland, NZ

I am emigrating to the the USA from New Zealand in a few weeks for work, but apart from the job I don't have much organised on the other side yet. Is there anyone else out there that has recently made a similar move? What difficulties did you encounter? What would you do differently? Any secret tricks for day-to-day living in the states (e.g.: setting up bank accounts, etc) that you can impart.

Logan Airport - getting there from Quincy

We have a 9 am flight on Saturday morning out of Logan Airport. We live in Quincy. We're leaning toward driving ourselves and leaving our car in the Economy Lot, with the idea that traffic's not likely to be a problem on a weekend morning. Do you think that's true? Also, how long does it take to take the shuttle from the Economy Lot to the airport (Terminal B, if that makes any difference)? [more inside]

What to do in Boston this weekend?

My husband and I will be in Boston this weekend, and will have time Friday evening, Saturday afternoon, and most of the day Sunday to do stuff. So what should we do? We've never been to the city before, and are interested in historical/cultural activities, or just walking around and looking at things. We also need a few good restaurant suggestions, but don't want to hit the bar scene. We are staying near the Boston Convention Center. We won't have a car but could get one. [more inside]
