Updated Recommendations for B&Bs in New Orleans

A search shows latest response on recommendations for B&Bs in New Orleans was from 2013. Am interested in Garden District or French Quarter (If away from noise/craziness) for 2 adults fro 2 nights in early October. Got any places you'd particularly recommend around the $140 or less range?

New Orleans recs please!

I will be in New Orleans in October for a family wedding. I haven't been since 2006, when a lot of stuff was still closed. I am hoping Mefites can recommend some restaurants and shops and things bc I will have a bit of free time. [more inside]

The mister and I are celebrating 15 years of wedded bliss by returning back to our honeymoon spot of New Orleans. We'd like to have a nicer dinner for our anniversary. No special snowflake requirements other than he doesn't want to bring a suit. [more inside]

New Orleans: Help prioritize sightseeing edition

I am taking my partner on a surprise trip to New Orleans for his birthday March 5-7. Neither of us have been, and he doesn't yet know our final destination, and I am super bad at finding places and deciding where to go. Need hive mind's input into what we should do! [more inside]

NOLA Restaurants for 10-17 Academics in CBD or FQ?

We'll be flying in for a conference on Memorial Day, and we need to find 2 dinner venues, one for 17 & one for 10 people. I was thinking Antoines (I'm a tourist so I love the back rooms and the idea of our project name on a Baked Alaska), but their cheapest prix fixe is well over the limit for our university ($59). Our conference is next to the Superdome, so I’m looking in the French Quarter/CBD within walking distance. Thanks for any suggestions!

New Orleans & Mardi Gras - weekend before vs. two weekends before?

Very quick (& time sensitive) question: my 40th is February 23rd. The weekend before that is radically cheaper to fly & stay in New Orleans than the weekend after. Much of what we like is the parades & atmosphere on St. Charles. I see there are many parades on the 18th & 19th; is this a similar atmosphere to the weekend just prior to Mardi Gras, or is it muted/different? [more inside]

NOLA for 20th Anniversary, with 12 year old.

Planning a first (and likely only) trip to New Orleans for the 1st week in April. We will celebrate our anniversary, but also have our 12 yr old son along. Having read older questions, I'm still looking for tips, suggestions for specific tours, etc and wondering what a reasonable timeline would be. [more inside]

NOLA Thanksgiving

Husband and I are heading to New Orleans for Thanksgiving and I have a three part question. We are driving from Austin and just booked a hotel in the French Quarter from Wednesday to Sunday. It will be our first time there. I saw this question from 2009 and this one from 2013 which are both very helpful. My questions: 1) what should first-time visitors do to soak it in? 2) are there Thanksgiving related events or meal recommendations? 3) How is the drive from Austin to NOLA and are there any noteworthy stops? About us: originally from Northeast, just moved to Austin this Fall, love ethnic food, do not need turkey or traditional Thanksgiving fare, like visiting new cities and spending hours walking around.

Halloween in New Orleans

Mrs COD and myself will be arriving in town on the 30th, and leaving on the 3rd. It looks like we will miss the parades and most if not all of the pre-31st activities. So what shouldn't we miss on Halloween itself, and what restaurants / museums, etc. should be put on our itinerary? I've been to N.O. once, for DrupalCon earlier this year. I was busy with the 'Con and saw little beyond getting to Frenchman's Street one night for some blues. WWII Museum is on my list. Beyond that - looking for ideas.

What are good activities for a toddler in New Orleans?

I am visiting New Orleans to see some family with my two year old, so I'm looking for activities or places (touristy or otherwise) that would be good for family outings with my son. I'm open to anything, though parks and museums are probably the best bet. Even places just to spend an hour or two would be great.

Conan! What is good in Shreveport?

Hey MeFites! I'm going to be traveling to Shreveport, LA next month. I've never been there before, I know it's a smaller city, and I'm hoping you can help me find some things. As seen in my previous travel-related asks, I am a special snowflake of a traveler, so I will put more under the cut. [more inside]

Air BNB and New Orleans - just how creepy is it?

Married couple, 30 years old, Florida. First extended trip together (5 nights?), as a couple, since our honeymoon 9 years ago. We are looking for a place to stay in New Orleans that is both nice, charming, with the New Orleans feel - and more on the affordable side. (less than $150/160 a night) [more inside]

Best Reasonably-Priced Hotel in The French Quarter

Traveling to New Orleans via train in March. Staying for three nights. Would like to know which hotels in the French Quarter are pretty cool without being pretty expensive. Centrally located with balconies is a plus. More Hotel Chelsea than Plaza Hotel if that makes sense. Would rather a bohemian vibe than a 4-star, but would like to avoid any flea bags.

New Orleans in November

I'm heading to New Orleans with my wife for the first time in a couple weeks. She'll be attending a conference for a few days, so I'll have about 2 days to explore by myself and then we'll hang out in the evenings. We/I have already got a few ideas of what to do, but I'm looking for some more suggestions. [more inside]

What should I do in New Orleans next week?

I'm working at a meeting in New Orleans next week - arriving Wednesday afternoon and leaving Saturday afternoon. I have breaks during the day and free evenings. Previously, I toured Jackson Square, Bourbon Street, the Superdome, and the Garden District via streetcar. I'll be staying one block from the French Quarter - a twenty minute walk from Cafe Du Monde, which I will take advantage of daily. [more inside]
