What to do with family on trip to big island Hawaii

We have flights (from Canada) and accommodation booked near White Sands beach just south of Kona and are staying there for about a week - but we haven't booked any activities yet and feeling a bit lost on what we should book ahead of time. I've seen this relevant question on the green, but I have a few specific questions not addressed there. [more inside]

New Oahu adventures

This is pretty straightforward: can you help me brainstorm experiences to surprise and delight my 43yo spouse on a visit to Oahu? She likes the outdoors, she likes culture, she doesn't care for shopping. Current plans: we're going to try to get into Hanauma Bay. Past plans that she loved but we don't want to repeat: Shangri La, Iolani Palace. A little more below.... [more inside]

Honolulu without a car

I was fortunate to be sent to Honolulu for a work conference. My wife and I have a few days before the conference starts. However, Waikiki Beach and the area around our hotel is too 'big city' for our tastes. We'd like to find some beaches and other areas that are more peaceful. The problem is that we don't have access to a car, nor do we wish to rent one. [more inside]

What to do on Kauai

I know this has been asked previously, but the questions are on the older side. We are staying in Koloa (though I am trying to convince my husband to spend 2 nights in Hanalei!). We love to snorkel! We like to frolic in calm ocean waters. We LOVE food (especially tropical fruit and other just-Hawaii items). We like walking and easy hikes. We like a pretty chill and relaxed vacation. Give me your best suggestions! Thank you.

Re-scheduling trip to Hawai'i due to COVID - best time to rebook?

As a respectful visitor to Hawai'i, I'm rebooking my trip that was scheduled for next week. I have one shot to get my timing right. Can you help me figure out the best COVID timing in combination with minimizing my impact on Hawaiian residents? [more inside]

Should we cancel 2021 tourist travel to Hawaii (Kailua-Kona)?

My partner and I currently have flight, hotel and car reservations for travel to Kailua-Kona for mid-November 2021. We're trying to find reliable information on the current situation in order to decide if it's a good idea to travel in a couple months. [more inside]

Is this vacation possible in Hawaii?

My spouse and I are interested in visiting Hawaii since we live on the West Coast, but I would be the organizer and I'm getting overwhelmed by all of the different aspects to plan. Most of all I'm unsure whether the type of more laid-back/community-centric experience we like to have is possible or likely to have in Hawaii. More inside! [more inside]

Looking immediately for monthly rental near Kona, Hawaii

My parents -- both in their 70s -- and my brother and his family -- are currently on the big island of Hawaii, scheduled to return home by plane to Wyoming at the end of next week. They're starting to think about staying in Hawaii rather than travel in the midst of COVID-19, which I'm very grateful for. I'd like to help them find a good accommodation that won't break the bank. Would love any leads on 3-4 bedroom houses where they could settle for the month of April, possibly longer.

Camping in Oahu - recommendations, tips?

My partner and I are travelling to Oahu, Hawaii for 8 days in May. We'll be in Honolulu for about 3-4 days, and then we're planning to camp on the east and/or north shores. We're looking at staying in state or country parks, like Ahupuaʻa ʻO Kahana State Park. [more inside]

Down and Out (for just one night) in Maui

We'll be having a short Hawaiian vacation between Christmas and New Years (yay!) We'll be there for five nights; unfortunately, our VRBO rental is for only four. And now, everything seems to be booked up (doh!) Any experience with 'sleeping rough' on Maui? Or how and where to arrange a night's lodging (ideally, near the airport) during the holiday crush, that's not ridiculously overpriced?

Hawaii (Big Island) itinerary critique & recommendations

Help me flesh out my trip to the Big Island (and any restaurant and shops recommendations)! I arrive in Hilo on Friday (4/27) around 1-2p and currently plan to spend 4 nights there, then drive to Kona for the remaining 4 nights, flying out Saturday around 9a. I want to balance not doing too much with not missing unique opportunities. One thing, I'm not too keen on sunbathing since I burn easily. Details inside: [more inside]
