Where I live, the state law changed almost 4 years ago saying that bicycle riders may treat stop signs as yield signs if there are no other vehicles present at a 4-way intersection. This is also known as the Idaho Stop. Problem is, there wasn't a widespread campaign notifying people of this change. In addition to publicizing the law change via traditional means like news reports, TV/internet ads, and direct mail, what are some concise ways to word a street sign placed at an intersection so that everyone understands the new law? I have three weeks approximately where I will have lots of time during the day to do touristy things without my toddler. What sorts of things are better to do during the weekdays than on weekends? Where should I visit to find these things? Do you have any specific DC things where going during weekday is so much better than weekend or at night (or not even open).

I'm planning on taking a few trips from Seattle to smaller cities in Washington to visit antique malls, thrift stores, and other businesses of that general type. I'm taking a weekend trip to Washington, D.C., very soon. I plan to attend some of the city's great museums on Saturday and Sunday. I was hoping to tour the Capitol as well, possibly on Monday... but my congresswoman's office has not gotten back to me about when or even if I'll be able to do that. Thinking of taking the family (3 kids, 10,6,2) to DC for a hotel + stay near the Smithsonian and visit one or two of the museums. It's $50 to just park at a hotel - and I thought it might be a GREAT way to have them experience the Metro...especially if it's just a couple of stops out. Bonus points for a better (cheaper) hotel experience as well (and avoid the direct traffic). [more inside]
