Driving alone in the Yucatan. Difficulty level: 35-ish woman

I've done my research and had concluded that driving around the Yucatan with my husband would be safe - only now circumstances have changed and I'm alone. Should I still do it? Bonus points for other things a slightly morose woman could do around Cancun to lift her spirits. [more inside]

Cancun on a budget?

I'm going to be spending a couple of weeks in the yucatan peninsula with my girlfriend, mostly staying in inexpensive hotels and hostels. We're flying home out of cancun, and her parents are going to meet us there for a few days. We don't have a huge budget, but would like to spend a couple of nights at a decent hotel with a nice pool. Being all inclusive isn't important to us, if there are decent restaurants nearby. In fact, being on the beach isn't that important, if we can get to it without too much hassle. Any suggestions for places to stay? I'd like it to be less than $100 a night per person.

All-Inclusives should be easy, right?

In about a month, 3 friends and I are going to an all-inclusive in Cancun. I'm fairly well-travelled, but I prefer going to cities and exploring around, so I've never done a cruise or any type of beachy resort vacation. What kind of tips/tricks does Metafilter have for getting the most out of relaxing, and drinking tropical drinks on the beach all day? [more inside]

Beach camping & fishing in Quintana Roo, Mexico?

Hubby and I are planning a last minute trip to Mexico. We're going to fly into Cancun and don't plan on renting a car since we're on a tight budget. We'd like to find a beach campground that's along the Caribbean Sea where we can stay away from crowds and just relax and maybe even do some shore fishing. Would be great it's within walking distance to a small local restaurant of sorts or even if it's just stalls. Does one exist? For the life of me, I have not been able to find any budget beach camping information online. I guess what makes it more difficult is that we'd like to be able to get there by bus and/or colectivo, if possible and it will be during the holidays! I knew I should have researched before booking but we got a good price and well...it will be winter and we could use the sun! Anyone BTDT? :) p.s. I'm totally open to suggestions! TIA!!!
