Mexico in July?

A friend and I will have about 5 nights to spend in Mexico after travelling through Costa Rica in July. We are after some relaxing beach time and Tulum was recommended to us, but after researching we are concerned about the smelly seaweed issue. Any suggestions from the hivemind? [more inside]

What level of safety concern travelling to the Oaxaca coast?

My partner and I are going back to Puerto Angel, on the Oaxacan coast, for a week to celebrate our anniversary in the beginning of December. In light of recent events and tensions, how concerned for safety should we be? We are respectful, polite travelers, one of us is fluent and the other tries real hard. [more inside]

Cabo for a long weekend in February

We (2 adults) are considering a long weekend in Cabo in February. Tickets are pretty cheap and it isn't too far. We aren't party/resort people, so need suggestions on where to stay, eat, and things to do.

Show me the natural beauty of Mexico

I find myself without a home in Mexico for three weeks so I thought I’d go poke around. I like natural beauty, generally on a grand scale. Difficulty: I can not leave Mexico, and I’d prefer to stay out of the western areas for safety reasons.

Flying into Cancun for two weeks. What do you recommend?

A close friend and I are flying into the Cancun airport at the end of the month. We have two weeks, Saturday to Saturday (to Saturday?) and there's so much to see and do. My friend will be working remotely during the day for all but 4 of the weekdays we're there, around the weekend in the middle. Where should we go and what should we do? [more inside]

Solo Travel in Mexico City

I'm a woman traveling solo to Mexico next month, and am debating whether I want to stop for ~5 days in Mexico City. Do you think it will be safe and reasonably carefree? Any recommendations on where to stay or where to go (and where not to)? I am an experienced traveler, but I do not speak Spanish and have never been to Mexico before. [more inside]

Things to see, eat and do in Mexico City/San Miguel?

We decided to go ahead and book a trip to Mexico City/San Miguel de Allende, and have 4 days in each. Do you have favourite places to see, things to do, or tips on amazing food/cafes/restaurants we should check out? Anything you loved and would go back to? Places you wish you'd spent more time? Food you can't forget? [more inside]

Semana Santa in Sayulita

Soooo-we are heading to Sayulita, near Puerto Vallarta, Saturday for a week for Spring Break. We knew we’d be there during Semana Santa (Easter week) when we booked, but I don’t think we realized how perhaps bad of an idea this might be. And now I’m seeing online posts that indicate we are doomed to be stricken by norovirus and soaked in sewage for the week. Help! [more inside]

Mobile data in Mexico

My partner and I are traveling to Mexico for 12 days next month and would like to know about the easiest and most cost-effective options for mobile data for our smartphones while we're there. (Whether that's a SIM card, an international plan, etc.) We both have iPhones. She has AT&T and I have Verizon (both based in the U.S.). Not particularly concerned about talk & text—just want to be able to get online. Thanks!

Would you go to Mexico given current US state dept advisories?

Planning a winter trip to Zihuatanejo with my parents, husband and 18 month old. We've been before (my parents go regularly) but noticed that the state department has changed their recommendations for this state in Mexico. I'm not overly concerned about crime in the touristy areas, but want to be sure we're not being naive given that we're traveling with our son. Would you go? If not where would you go instead for a similar warm-weather trip in Feb?
