Iceland's eastern region, along the coast and around the Lagarfljót – I want to learn about any interesting geography / natural features that are unique to the east AND/OR are relatively little known. Especially any relating to water and its different states (glacier–river–ocean).

Some friends and I are flying in to Reykjavik tomorrow for a long weekend that includes a Northern Lights tour, but it looks like this two-day transport strike is going ahead, and that will seriously mess up our plans. [more inside]

Heading to Copenhagen for the first week of March, and Iceland for the second week. Activities in Iceland will include a glacier walk, ice cave visit, some hiking, hopefully gazing at the Northern Lights. I’ve found some packing lists, and I’ve got my wool base layers. I’m uncertain about footwear. I would like to only bring one pair of footwear, so I’m not sure if they should be hiking boots or winter boots or...something else? I care more about being warm than about being stylish, although if there’s an option to incorporate both into one that would be great. If you have any recommendations for waterproof, windproof top layers that you’ve tried out in these conditions, I’m all ears as well. Also: can one fly with hand/foot warmers (the air-activated kind) in their carry-on?

We're leaving for vacation next Thursday and will be in Reykjavik for two days. Need a couple of restaurant recommendations for dinner for Friday and Saturday night (June 16 and 17). Casual is probably better than fancy. I am dairy-intolerant. The hot dogs are already in the plans as lunch.

As part of an upcoming trip, I'll have a 25 hour layover in Iceland. I land at Keflavík airport at 3:30pm and leave the next day at 4:50pm. I've reserved a room for the night in Reykjavik and have rented a car. Where should I drive? Is this enough time for the Golden Circle? [more inside]

Did you go to Iceland without renting a car? If so...did you feel your trip was limited by not having a car? Or dId you find other ways to get to awesome places? [more inside]

So my dear friend is heading to Iceland next week for a week. Staying in an Air BnB outside of reykjavik. She will have a rental car for half a week. Where should she go? Where should she eat? What is she do? No food restrictions. Both adventurous hikers and eaters.

Our summer vacation this year is taking us to Amsterdam by way of Iceland thanks to the cheap airfare packages Icelandair runs out of Logan Airport. We will have two days to spend in Iceland before continuing on to our final destination. Help us figure out what we can realistically fit in to that all-too-brief window. [more inside]

We want to go to Iceland late August/early September. We've never camped, or vanned, much less campervanned, but it sounds like an adventure! Now seeking advice from Iceland holiday veterans, van connoisseurs and fellow travelers. [more inside]

As seems to be the trend around here, my wife and I will visit Reykjavik in October. However, our flight gets in to Keflavik very early. Any suggestions for entertainment in the mean time? Additional questions inside. [more inside]

We are a small group of photographers spending 2 weeks in Iceland. For us, somewhere that feels remote is way more appealing than checking off the can’t-miss attractions alongside everybody else. However, this is in conflict with our hiking ability: the group can handle moderately rough trails (no scrambling, but some loose rocks are fine), we are probably OK with up to 2km round-trip per hike, but hills are a problem (please, no more than 30m elevation change.) Just like everybody else, we’re driving all around the island, including the westfjords, and have a (questionable) 4x4. [more inside]

When there seemed to be an endless supply of RV's/motor homes for rent my week in Iceland yesterday, I bought my air tix from the US. Today though things seem to have dried up and I'm being offered only trailers mounted on an F-150, which might work if I have to. Plan was to drive around Ring Road etc. and since we're obviously late for this summer, figured that would save the trouble of endless hotel reservations and disappointments. Any MeFites have any suggestions to save my trip?
