Recommendations for Vacation to San Juan or Orcas Island.

I'm thinking about a trip to the Pacific North west and am looking for hotel recommendations on the San-Juan or Orca Islands. A bit rustic is OK but we're traveling with my older mother so no camping. I want something upscale cabins or resort, preferably part of a larger complex with a spa. What do you suggest?

Will the 10:30 Toronto-Kinsgston Via Train be on time for the eclipse?

Looking to take a train tomorrow from Toronto to Kingston to see the eclipse. The eclipse starts at 2:09, totality at 3:22. The train is scheduled to arrive at 12:49. Is there info on how often that train is delayed and by how long? Is there any reason to expect greater delays than usual tomorrow?

Victoria & Vancouver BC in May

I'm considering a ferry/train combo trip to Vancouver and Victoria in May. I am looking for some logistical and timing advice, especially from folks who live in or spend time in Vancouver or on Vancouver Island. Any suggestions for saving some money on lodging? Also, should I bring my bike? [more inside]

Can I use one-way flights for US-Canada-US travel?

I want to book a flight from the US to Canada on Air Canada, and the return trip on United, for cost reasons. I plan to buy the return ticket before travel, so I will have the return ticket available to show to Customs upon entering Canada. Is this generally accepted by Canadian Customs? Flights in and out of Canada are through Toronto YYZ. I'm a US citizen. I tried to search previous AskMe's but the tool wasn't working for me. Thanks for your help.

What are the "destination forms" that United Airlines wants for Canada?

I'm traveling from CA to BC in a couple of weeks on United Airlines. United's online system wants me to upload a scan of my passport. If possible, I'd like to avoid that because I'm sure their system will suffer a data breach at some point. But when I try to get past the prompts to upload my passport, it tells me "You can't get fully Travel Ready before you scan your passport". So … do I have a choice? [more inside]

October in British Columbia -

I'm going on a work trip to Victoria, BC in October. I want to take a ~week's holiday while I'm there, preferably on a group trip of some kind. However, it seems to be too late in the year for the summer activities and too early for the winter ones. I'd like to see some wildlife, scenary, and history. Help me find what I'm after! Can we see the aurora from the Vancouver area in November?

I have a conference trip planned for mid-November of this year in Vancouver, Canada. This will provide an opportunity to tack on a vacation with my spouse. If there's a chance of being able to see the northern lights from somewhere nearby, we'd like to give it a try. What are people's recommendations? [more inside]

Montreal YUL to Bonaventure

I am interested in getting from YUL to Bonaventure or Gare Centrale via transit. It looks like there is a bus that runs to another Metro station, which can then be taken to Bonventure. That looks like a very long ride, possibly two hours or so. Are there other options to get to downtown, perhaps via commuter rail? [more inside]

Vancouver Island in December

What’s Vancouver Island like in December? Is it worth visiting? We were thinking about visiting the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino on Vancouver Island in later December. Storm watching and just kind of snuggling in for a few days sounds like a relaxing and chill way to end the year, but getting there sounds like a lot, and maybe too much of the opposite of the relaxing disconnect we were hoping for. One night in Yellowknife

Later this month I am flying from Vancouver to Yellowknife to help my brother move back to Victoria, BC. We will be spending one night in Yellowknife before the drive. Can anyone recommend an interesting and affordable place to stay? I have looked at the "sleep" section on Wikitravel, but it doesn't provide any information to distinguish one option from another.
