Best waterproof backpack and other gear for rainy season travel?

I'm traveling to the Philippines very soon, and it's the rainy season--I'm told to expect it to rain heavily pretty much all the time. I'll need to carry a backpack with a laptop in it around with me many days. Please recommend a good waterproof (or -resistant) backpack! Ideally 20-30L, not particularly hike-y or sport-y looking, available in black, and with a side bottle pocket. Any other gear recommendations are welcome, as well. I'll already be packing a light rain jacket, quick-dry synthetic clothes, and shoes that can get wet.

Music festival in an unfamiliar country - good idea or bad idea?

I'm going to be in Barcelona for work in July, and there's a music festival directly before my job starts that I'd like to go to. I don't speak any Spanish (well, a very small amount), and I've never been to Barcelona - how easy/difficult will it be for me to get around on my own (mostly to/from the festival, and navigating the festival itself)? West Virginia nature places, things to see and local music

We have a summer wedding in Maryland. We are thinking of vacationing in West Virginia state for a few days. Can you suggest best nature places to visit, places to hike, best things to see, and maybe local music we can take in. Thanks as always.

Low-driving vacation spots in California

I'm trying to find a good place in California to make into our annual vacation spot -- somewhere with rental cabins where kids and adults can explore and walk to fun outdoor activities without everyone having to pile in a car. Please share your best camping or vacation rental experiences if you would! [more inside]

Vancouver with Kids

My family has booked a flight to Vancouver for August 3rd - 10th. We have never been and are looking for suggestions on where to stay and what to do. My kids are 8 and 10. A friend who lives there said with that time frame, he would spend half the time in the city and half the time in Whistler. Looking for alternative suggestions with specific answers on neighborhoods and lodging options. We are open to hotels or Airbnb. [more inside]

Responsible, sustainable holidays options in Europe?

My partner and I are planning a holiday in January, somewhere in Europe that will have sun that time of year. My partner likes cruising but I am not keen on the environmental damage that they cause. I am also not that keen on flying, for the same reasons. Does anyone have suggestions for places, trips, or operators that offer more responsible and sustainable holidays?

Vacation in France; questions about driving, etiquette, rideshare, etc.

We’re heading to France for ten days on Sunday and I just had a few questions that have been on my mind. For reference, we’re in Paris for about 2 days, a day trip to Strasbourg, and then 6 days in the Provence region. My sister-in-law speaks decent French so she can help with certain things (traffic signage, for example). [more inside]

ISO vacation tips for Finland in August

We (spouse & I) are looking at Finland as a summer vacation option, specifically the idea of renting a cabin by a lake in the area around Lappeenranta in late August. Have you ever done this or know anybody who did? What cool things did you do beyond enjoying nature and generally relaxing by the lake? [more inside]

Help me tow a car behind a moving truck.

In a month or so, I will be moving from eastern MD to the Twin Cities, a two to three day drive. So I need to drive a small moving truck (10-12 feet) to Minnesota. I also need to get my Honda Civic there. The most efficient and lowest cost way to do this is to rent a tow dolly and pull the car behind the truck. I'm a little nervous. [more inside]

EBike vs sweaty person

Two of the big things that have put me off cycling to work are (1) I hate uphills and everywhere is uphill both ways where I live and (2) I am a horribly sweaty person and there is nowhere to shower at work. I am thinking about an ebike as a solution to (1), but wondering if I'll still end up starting work a revolting sweaty mess. Ebike users: how much of a sweat do you raise? [more inside]

4th of July: San Francisco Edition

I booked a room at the Grand Hyatt in SF for the 4th of July weekend. I live in San Jose area, so I am somewhat familiar with San Francisco. What are some off the beaten path places to visit or see? Food/bars? Night life? Are there fireworks that weekend or just on the 4th? We have plans to visit Hot Italian in Emeryville, but otherwise we are just looking to enjoy the city instead of our typical single objective-oriented travel.

Best way to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport via public transportation?

We’re staying around the Ooterpark neighborhood, need to be at Schiphol Airport around 10 AM on Friday, we have tram cards available. What’s a good way to get there? Should we go to Central Station first and then...what? We’re taking flights via Alitalia (one of us) and Norwegian (the other).. Thanks!

Incredible festivals around the world!

I'm trying to plan a Summer 2020 trip. I am thinking of incorporating a couple amazing festivals in our travels.
