Should I stay part time at work, or leave?
I have just been made part time in a role I actually quite enjoy (I work in non-profits, in a relaxed, junior position after years in senior roles, so I can focus on my writing while learning more about the non-profit sector), however I am conflicted on how I feel about the decision. [more inside]
How to deal with harmful editors or supervisors that don't listen to you
I've started my first job out of law school in a writing heavy area, and I am having a very difficult time with some of my editors. This question applies to writers who feel their work is made worse by an editor, and employees who feel their own judgments and experience aren't respected by a supervisor. Specific issues listed below. [more inside]
Jobfilter: somewhere with the least work hour and housing so I can write
I'm a goldfish of procrastination and OCD - I expand to the options I'm given. And right now that's killing my writing. So I'm looking for a job with housing somewhere in the world (not the US) where I can get some writing done. The less populated and less hours the better. Ideas? [more inside]
Framing a late email response
I received a touching-base message from a work connection/ friend and intermittent correspondent. Initially flaked on responding, then got anxious/guilty and flaked some more (for... ok, about 2 months). I'm on a summers-off schedule, and I'd like to take advantage of the renewed start of work to actually get back in touch with this person. How can I frame that email with maximum tact? [more inside]

Good industry memoirs
I am looking for examples of memoirs which changed assumptions about particular industries or professions, or remoulded individual practitioners in the public conciousness. Not whistle-blowing, but books which exposed unusual facets of a particular job, or lifted the lid on unexpected excesses and humourous incidents. [more inside]

How to turn a viral article into work?
I'm a writer. I don't have a steady job and things are looking a little grim. Yet I recently hit the viral jackpot with an article linked on the blue and BoingBoing and all over the place, and it's sprinting toward 40,000 hits since I posted it Tuesday night. Much of it was timing; it was a way to tie up some surprising (to me) feelings I had about Carrie Fisher. Nevertheless, anybody know how you're supposed to use these things for work/job purposes? Tips on writing for ESL readers.

Jobs Like Journalism, Minus the Writing
I've been working in either journalism or communications for a few years now and while I like it a lot, I feel like I still haven't quite found the right job. What are some career trajectories for someone who is really good at research, loves talking to people, and has an overwhelming sense of curiosity, but is tired of writing everyday. [more inside]
Self- sabotage: A beast with two heads
For the past few years, I've had to deal with what seems like procrastination's more stubborn cousin. It's not just a tendency to put things off- it feels like a visceral, physically-manifested resistance to doing things that should involve no forethought in terms of effort whatsoever, or that do, but that would only serve to help me better myself if I managed to get them done. Help me find ways to make more money
I am unable to work because of disability. I collect SSDI and while I get food stamps, I only get $17/month, which doesn't go very far. Since I went on SSDI in 2010, I've tried various ways to supplement my income, but I have yet to come up with anything reliable. Budgeting is not the problem; there simply isn't enough money. Plus, it would be nice to improve my quality of life even a little bit. [more inside]

I want to move my career in a different direction.
I graduated with an M.A. in English and through luck, contracting, and family connections, came to work in nuclear power. My administrative role has changed to field work. I prefer office work, especially writing reports etc. My area in nuclear is very specialized, and due to downsizing in the industry, I feel a real need to get familiar with my prospects for other jobs and diversify my skills. However, I have no idea how to begin, research being one of my weak points. Long explanation + details inside. [more inside]

Getting Your Creative Motivation Back After A Long Dry Spell?
I went on a long, long break form my creative career cause I was feeling burnt out due to some failures and now I can't seem to get back into it, possibly because I no longer have a financial incentive to do so. How can I fix this? Warning: Long, super privileged person problems. [more inside]
How can I find consistent freelance copywriting work for 5 cents a word?
I'd like to get more into freelance copywriting. It's something I can do from home, and I'm pretty good at it. I have a money and time goal for it.
Money: 5 cents a word
Time: 15 hours a week
Total: About $1,500 a month.
I'm on Textbroker, but they rarely pay more than 1.5 cents a word. I'm open to pay-by-project too, if they're consistent. How would I go about finding regular clients/websites that could help me reach my goal?
How do I write a blog that's professional and personal?

Love writing but...
I've always had communications-related jobs, but they never seem to be the right fit. I'm a great writer (although I have a love/hate relationship with writing), but I also helping enjoy helping people and interacting with people, etc., and writing is a pretty solitary job. (Well, PR isn't, but that's one area I want to stay away from, as well as fundraising). Have any other writer-types who are like me found a solution? (Oh, and I don't want to take on grad-school loans right now.)

Help me finish a PhD in 6 weeks
Help me to make a great leap forward in my PhD in the next six weeks. I am in the last year of my PhD (philosophy) so the thesis has to be finished by December, however, I am also full time university lecturer, so when the term starts my ability to write every day is drastically compromised. By selling part of my soul I negotiated almost complete freedom for the next six weeks and I want to use them to make massive progress with writing the thesis. I already have about 40,000 words written and I am hoping to write another 40,000 over the next 6 weeks. The challenge is to stick to the daily quota of 1,000 words, as some days it is possible, even fun, other days it is very very hard. [more inside]

Should I be paid for the work I produced in this interview?
I recently attended a job interview which included a copywriting test - I was given some facts about an upcoming event and asked to write a press release. I did not get the job, however, the press release was released exactly as I wrote it (without my byline) and was picked up by a small local news blog and a local religious newspaper, as well as being used in the organisation's internal newsletter. The headline I wrote was also tweeted with a link to the event info on the organisation's website. [more inside]

How can I make a living doing what I love?
My almost-50 birthday is this week. Several years ago I quit my job to start a new career. I still have little idea how to make money from what I want to do. I'd hate to go back to my former career, and I can't imagine who would hire a man nearing 50, who hasn't had a job in years... [more inside]
GSA Contract...Help!
My boss has asked me to work on getting our company a contract with the U.S. government's General Services Administration (GSA). I have been doing some research and reading everything I can about it, but I think this may be too big of a job for just me. Does anyone have any experience with working on a contract like this or know of any good resources for help? Anything that any of you can offer would be great. Thanks!
