What's it like to switch cell carriers these days?
Spouse Proust and I would like to switch carriers from Verizon to ATT, because of particularly poor Verizon coverage in a locale we frequently frequent. How Does this work? I gather we'll get new sims, and then... just magic, the numbers port the moment we put the new sims in? [more inside]
Can I somehow boost cell data reception in a remote location reliably?
I am spending time at a cabin in the woods, something this massive WFH situation has afforded me. My Verizon service gets 1-2 bars of LTE consistently, but wavers between usable and unusable when doing my job. Can I do something about this? [more inside]
Block SMS on iOS based on content / keyword?
I have a constant spammer sending SMS to my work iPhone. It always contains the same unique, wrong name. Can I create a filter somewhere to block these so I don't ever have to see them again? [more inside]
Best used Verizon iphone for a kid
I'm looking for MeFite suggestions regarding which used Verizon iphone to buy for a middle schooler. I want to spend less than $250 (way less is better). I'm concerned about the "touch disease." I'm concerned about the phone becoming obsolete too quickly. I'm balancing this with concern that the phone will get lost or broken. I'm wondering what else I should be concerned with that I haven't even considered... [more inside]
Are "interest-free" cell phone purchase plans REALLY interest-free?
My phone keeps crashing and I think it's probably time to upgrade. My carrier is Verizon and they claim that I can upgrade my phone on a 24-month payment plan with 0% APR. What's the catch? [more inside]
New Cell Phone: Current Gen or Wait? (2019 Edition)
The end is nigh for my current phone - but I have time to budget and plan for its replacement. I haven't been paying attention to cell phone development for the last couple generations. Help? [more inside]
Cancelled Verizon internet service, getting billed for another month
I cancelled Verizon internet on the 28th of February and Verizon actually got around to disconnecting service on the 04th of March (with email confirmation on the 28th of both these things). They're now trying to charge my for the entire month of March as a "closing statement", which I'm a bit mad about. Mainly as it looks like I'm paying up for their inability to act on canceled service in a timely fashion? [more inside]
New England-filter: Verizon vs AT&T when using GPS/Google Maps
Is Verizon GPS with Google Maps particularly awful around Cape Cod? I just switched to a Verizon pre-paid plan from an AT&T pre-paid plan due to poor AT&T reception in areas I frequent, but I didn't expect it to destroy my GPS-ing! Is it that bad elsewhere? [more inside]
Boosting Cell Phone Signal at Home
I just bought a house that is apparently in a cell phone coverage dead zone. I get two bars on my iPhone at best - the internet barely works at all, and even voice calls cut in and out. This house is right in the middle of the city (Raleigh, North Carolina), but in a wooded area on the far edge of the neighborhood near a creek. [more inside]
Email: Verizon/AOL Thunderbird problem

Transferring a Verizon iPhone to a different Verizon account
I have an iPhone 6s that I want to give to my husband, who also has an iPhone 6s but unfortunately dropped it into the bathtub. We both have Verizon service, but are not on the same account. What do we need to do to make my old phone into his new phone? [more inside]
Mobile data in Mexico
My partner and I are traveling to Mexico for 12 days next month and would like to know about the easiest and most cost-effective options for mobile data for our smartphones while we're there. (Whether that's a SIM card, an international plan, etc.) We both have iPhones. She has AT&T and I have Verizon (both based in the U.S.). Not particularly concerned about talk & text—just want to be able to get online. Thanks!
What phone do I want? Android, Verizon, not the Galaxy
My Christmas present was a new phone, which I was supposed to pick out before Christmas, and I still haven't gotten around to it! I use Android, on Verizon, and I don't want a tip-top of the line phone, and it MUST be sturdy (or well-warrantied). What do you suggest? [more inside]
Best network and plan for a tween's Nokia 3310 3G?
Our tween kid received an unlocked Nokia 3310 3G for Christmas, which she loves the design of and we are pretty happy about feature-wise as . However our family is on Verizon, which does not seem to support it, and a brief foray into alternative networks has only turned up very expensive plans so far. Looking for advice on the bets network and plan to get this thing on, ideally low cost and just voice and text. We are based in the US.
iPhone upgrade: Explain it like I'm 5
My iPhone 5S has become a sad panda. I would like to replace it. I've never done anything but the straight 2-year contract new phone upgrade through the Verizon plan I've had for at least 15 years. Please help me understand the current landscape of options. I'm generally tech savvy but this is an aspect of the world I have paid literally no attention to in years. [more inside]
Best Android Phone on Verizon
I'm getting an Android smartphone that runs on Verizon. I overwhelmed myself with comparison sites and reviews, and need some guidance. Budget: Under $600, preferably under $400. [more inside]

Should I switch from Verizon to Project Fi?
I'm currently a longtime Verizon customer (out of contract and on an old plan that is no longer supported). I just bought a Google Pixel 2 directly from Google. Should I switch to Project Fi or stick with Verizon? Snowflakes inside... [more inside]
How to be totally Square at the comics convention
I'm looking into setting up a Wifi hotspot at a table at the NYCC to take credit card payments over Square. There will be multiple people taking orders, some with UK phones, so we want to use a dedicated device for this purpose. Oh, and it needs to work well in the Javits Center, and be pay as you go... I need data for about 1 day, and I'm willing to pay to make it happen.
I have an important presentation early next week that I need to attend via WebEx and phone while sitting in the passenger seat of a car hurtling down the Interstate in middle-of-nowhere Indiana. If I can get a reliable WiFi hotspot (Verizon preferred, AT&T okay) I can make this happen. For reasons I'd rather not discuss, stopping
somewhere to take the call is not a good option. What's the best way to make this happen? [more inside]
Seeking Verizon postpaid replacement for T-Mobile Moto G prepaid phone
My folks have been using Moto G smartphones with T-Mobile. They’re light users, and they like the phones but they’re unhappy with the coverage. I looked into switching them over to a minimal 2GB Verizon postpaid account for better coverage, but Verizon won’t accept their phones. Verizon has a Moto G, but it’s for prepaid. Do you have any suggestions on an equivalent phone I could get them to replace their Moto Gs on a Verizon postpaid plan?
Will Verizon Un-Throttle my Data?
I purchased a Verizon mobile hotspot on Friday. I also purchased an unlimited 4G LTE data plan. I need this to do work for my actual job while my band is on tour. Apparently, I've gone over the 10GB in 2 days and I'm now throttled back to 3G. [more inside]
Routes to help with Verizon other than BBB
Hey there, I am being wrongly charged by Verizon for a month of internet when I was told it's a day by day billing plan. Thanks to NYC's one-party recording policy, I have recordings of their customer service people saying that when I signed up. I've filed 4 BBB complaints that have gone nowhere. What else can I do?
New Verizon phone for the U.S., plus travel to Ireland & Japan
How does one select a Verizon phone (iPhone) for use in the U.S., which can also be used in Japan and Ireland? It's to make & receive calls & texts, with data, too. (Not a lot, but some.) Currently they have an iPhone and changing platforms would be difficult. [more inside]

Using Unlocked Verizon iPhone (WIFI-ony) Without SIM
I bought an unlocked Verizon iPhone 6 on eBay for (wi-fi only) software testing. Did not come with SIM, and Verizon won't provide a SIM unless I'm a customer (I do have an AT&T SIM in my normal phone). I need, most of all, to check which iOs the phone's running (must be under 10.2.1 or else I'll resell), but I can't get past the welcome screen. How can I check iOs....and, for extra points, use the damn thing wi-fi only - without SIM?
Order of operations: phone and plan when plan is paid for by employer
My employer will be paying for my phone plan but not for my phone. I'm currently out of contract with Verizon and an iPhone 5S. I'll be joining my employer's Verizon plan and also want to get an iPhone 7 plus.
I am trying to figure out how to do this in a way that minimizes cost since Verizon seems to be doing things differently than they used to.
My existing account also includes my husband's phone, so it will continue to exist. It is also time for him to get a new phone.
Prepaid plan for 64GB iPhone 6?
I'm currently with Verizon, but my contract is up this May, and this Wirecutter article has me convinced that a prepaid plan would be most cost-efficient given my usage. (I rarely talk, mostly use Signal for text messages, and consistently stay under 2GB of data usage.) The problem I'm running into is finding a prepaid carrier who accepts my device, a 64GB iPhone 6. iPhone upgrade question--should I go with the 6 or 7?
I am currently using an iPhone 5S through Verizon. It's about 2 years old now and is paid off, and the battery life has been getting shorter and shorter. I am really used to it, and I don't want to get something that's substantially different. I have played around with a Samsung Galaxy S7 and did not like it at all. [more inside]

Smartest route for an iPhone 7 on Verizon?
I have an iphone 6 with Verizon. My contract is about to expire. Googling has left me with a wide variety of seemingly conflicting answers. Can I move my sim into a different iPhone and just start using it?
My phone is an iPhone 6.
Through work I have access to an unlocked iPhone 6S Plus.
I would like to try using the iPhone 6S Plus as my everyday phone to see if the form factor works for me. Can I just move the sim from the 6 into the 6S Plus and start making calls, or do I need to involve my carrier (Verizon)? [more inside]

Inconsistent Performance With New Wifi Router
I upgraded from an ancient Verizon Fios Router to their new Quantum Gateway router. I average 50mbs up/down over both 2.4 and 5.0 ghz networks. But there are frequent huge slowdowns (usually to <1mb/sec either up or down - never both at once - on both networks). It's seen on my Macbook Air and on mobile devices. Previous router was robust and consistent. Should I just revert? FYI mffice is upstairs and one room over from the router. But when it works, it works great.

Selling a Verizon phone before having another to activate
I just sold a Verizon iPhone on Swappa much more quickly than I thought I would. I shipped it today and the buyer should receive it tomorrow (Tuesday). I have done this before, but only when I had another phone to activate in its place. However, this time, I will not have the new phone until this Thursday. My question is this: If I have not deactivated the phone I sold and activated the new one, what will happen when the buyer tries to activate the phone I just told to him, which is currently active on my account? Why do I get black bars on HD TV with FIOS
I have an HP ENVY 32-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor Quad-HD with a display resolution maximum of 2560 x1440 pixels. I just hooked Verizon's FIOS TV to it, and even on the HD channels, I have black bars on the top and bottom of the picture. What gives? [more inside]

Replacement wireless antenna for Verizon SCS-2U01 network extender?

Can I get landline caller ID on a cell phone?
Caller ID on landlines typically shows the name of the person or business calling. Caller ID on cell phones only shows the name if you have it in your cell phone contact list. Otherwise it just shows the number. Why the difference? [more inside]
Where and how to buy mobile phones nowadays
Since Verizon ditched the subsidized-phone-with-contract deal, I'm not sure what the best way to buy a phone is anymore.
My contract just ended and I'm DYING to get a new phone. My last one failed under warranty and the replacement that they gave me had a battery that would barely make it through the day ("like new", my ass). I've been counting the days until I was able to upgrade. [more inside]
Time Warner Internet in Queens?
Hey, there. I've been a customer of Verizon DSL for a few years now and the relationship is starting to fray a little around the edges. At this point, given the sucky state of the Internet providers market in the five boroughs, the only realistic alternative is Time Warner cable internet. I'd like to explore this option, but I'd like to hear from some actual human beings first. [more inside]
